Partly, yes. A short list of her beliefs:
America is an imperialist nation
All wars are wrong except The Civil War, WWII and the Revolutionary War (and those are debateable)
Patriotism is blind loyalty and ignorance
Universal Medical Care is a right
Jimmy Carter was our best President
Gays should be able to marry
Republicans are either rich or rednecks
I wouldn't be a Republican if I taught in inner-city schools and saw what she saw (this one baffles me)
It's all Bush's fault that teachers can't find jobs (even though last time I checked W wasn't in charge of the Akron Public School system)
NCLB is a horrible idea (I actually agree with her here but for different reasons)
All military funding should be diverted to education, the poor, medical care (pick your liberal pet project and insert here)
She IS Pro-life, at least
She's been brainwashed. You can set her straight. And if you can't then run. If she's pro life there's hope.
Jimmy Carter was our best PresidentI'm sorry... but that alone, puts her in the wackaloon-barking-moonbat category.
Are you dating "Mary Moon?" (she's a vegetarian!)
Sure seems like a lot to overcome.......doesn't leave a lot to talk about. I have a very gung ho teacher's union friend who has ended relationships because the guys don't agree with her. I've read other people who've said that when people get married and have kids things change and they become conservative......I know an awful lot of married Moms in their 40s and 50s who are still dyed in the wool libs, and many of them are teachers. They believe everything their union says, which is pretty scary!!
I have to say after reading your description of your girlfriends views I still say....run!!! Run as fast as you can!!!!
Dude. I broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years last week. He believed pretty much the same as your girlfriend.
For a long time, I thought that politics isn't so important. In the long run, he's only one vote out of 300 million, so what does it matter?
However, you have to realize that even though political activity in itself is mental masturbation, political ideologies do NOT come out of a vacuum. Your worldview and attitudes about life in general are in direct opposition to hers.
It may not be obvious now, especially since you both try to put on a moderate facade to avoid touchy conversations with each other. But, the fact still exists that a very large part of your philosophies about life in general are in direct opposition to each other. Just think about what I said, OK?
