Once you get to the top end, the difference between two men can mean billions of dollars for shareholders. If you want the top dog, you gotta pay more then your competition.
On the other hand ultimately the difference to your company between two people stocking shelves is small. Therefore the amount you pay either is just what people will do that work for.
Its tough, but its reality. Some ultra rich do deserve their millions, and because Walmart has doen so well, Lee Scott is one of them I believe.

Delegation of powers. He runs a 260 billion dollar company, hes got bigger things to worry about then where a few thousand dollars went. That is why he has a hierarchy under him, who somewhere down the line do have to deal with those questions.
