The drummer of Rush does about 15 things at once. He's amazing!
Well, that is what the little smiley was for...
Last Friday Night I went over to the Cotati Crawl to check out the music scene and at one of the clubs a drummer friend of mine was the bouncer there.
This guy worked for me years ago (gotta make a living somehow) in a business I used to have. We used to throw drummer jokes back and forth all the time when we were working on the same project.
And as a matter of fact, this one worked real well with him:
Why do all drummers have girlfriends?
They need a place to live.
He at the time was living with his girlfriend.
He's now playing with 4 bands and is going to tour this summer and fall. (or so he said...)
Not to put too fine a point on it but a drummer has got to be twice the musician other musicians have to be...
Well I don't know about twice the musician. But without a good drummer, it's like building a house without a foundation.
And I play guitar!
Heck, I know a guitar player that is in love with his drummer! LOL
Drummers do a lot more work putting across a song than even the rhythm player does. They have to keep time as well as introduce and resolve various other players parts. Often this is accomplished by his doing TWO or THREE or FOUR different things at once. (left hand, right hand left foot, right foot)Try to find anyone that can do that without his timekeeping wobbling a bit. It's hard to find such a musician.
Correct on all counts.
A friend of mine, a drummer on the scene in NY some years ago was the drummer that was called when the names of the day back then needed the best drummer around to record a record.
I played with him for years after he came to California, and sat in on a recording session when he put down a 22 minute solo for an album.
His timing was impeccable. None better...well maybe Buddy Rich...LOL
It's hard to make it in the music world as you are aware. There are many guitar players (and other musicians too I imagine) that spend hours every day sitting in their basements playing their electric guitars (with out an amplifier) hoping some day to make it.
