Oh, I'm not disputing that - read my post again, I'm saying that Christians have not had a consistent history of being saints.
I'm more concerned with what the doctrine teaches, not what the followers do. Yes, there were stonings, wars, and atrocities committed in the Old Testament; however, once Jesus was born the old law was made obsolete. He defied the old laws and was accused of blasphemy. That's the reason He was crucified. His crucifixion also fulfilled Old Testament prophecy.
Im not knowledgeable on exactly what brought about the crusades or what happened during them so I really cant speak too much about that. Millions of people have died by misguided hands of religious extremists throughout history, but Christianity has moved beyond that. Islam still practices and actively encourages this butchery.
Jesus teaches us to love our enemies (and I'll be the first to admit I struggle with that daily). Mohammad teaches his followers to kill their enemies. Based on doctrine (Bible vs. Koran) it's clear that Islam is not a religion of peace.
