Secret Service Defends Giving Gannon/Guckert Access to White House

NEW YORK Responding to a request from House Democrats to investigate the approval of James Guckert, a.k.a. Jeff Gannon, to attend White House briefings and presidential press conferences for two years, the U.S. Secret Service has declared that there was “no deviation” from “proper procedures."

Secret Service Deputy Assistant Director Conrad A. Everett defended the vetting in a letter to Rep. John Conyers and Rep. Louise Slaughter, obtained by the Web site, The Raw Story. Guckert is the former reporter for GOPUSA/Talon News who has also been linked to male escort services.

“Mr. Guckert provided the Secret Service with his legal name, rather than his 'pen name,' and was assessed using the same criteria applied to all individuals seeking access to White House briefings,” Everett wrote.

“We would note,” Everett added, “that members of the press who are afforded access to the White House may utilize professional names that differ from their legal names. The Secret Service, however, requires that legal names be provided to enable the screening processes to work effectively.”

But Rep. Slaughter told The Raw Story, “While I appreciate the Secret Service's response to some of our questions, the bigger picture remains. The relationship between this Administration and Jeff Gannon was anything but typical and the American people deserve the full, unvarnished truth.”

Rep. Conyers said questions remained about who at the White House paved the way for Guckert to receive a “day pass,” meant for occasional use by out-of-town journalists, nearly every weekday for two years.

John Aravosis of Americablog, who has been prominent in the current uproar, asked: “If Gannon's day pass was effectively equivalent to a 'hard pass' given to long-term White House reporters, why didn't Gannon get a more thorough background check?” In his view, Gannon/Guckert “posed the same potential risk to national security as any hard pass reporter,” yet he was “never forced to get a hard pass, and thus never required to get the hard pass three-month FBI background check.”

I think the concern here is that Gannon was a prostitute. Which is against the law. Which should (regardless of his political views) disqualify him to be asking questions of the president and the press secretary. For two years.

Link will take you to an old story about the kidnapping of Johnny Gosch. Currently abounding on many websites is the possibility and even probability that Gannon is Gosch.

I just heard this morning that Gannon has contacted a publisher in Malaysia and plans to write an expose book. Whether or not Gannon is Gosch he's in danger because of the forces that would silence him at all costs.

If Gannon is Gosch he'd jeopardize his life by admitting it at this time unless he is in a very, very safe place. Even Johnny's mother, Noreen, will neither deny or confirm that Gannon is Gosch.

Whoever Gannon turns out to be I hope he gets his book written ASAP and distributes it worldwide so that the corrupt debauched fiends will be exposed.

Since he wasn't arrested or booked for prostitution, and the website apparently used some fictitious name, I'm a little fuzzy on how the Secret Service should have known about it.

For that matter, I'm a little fuzzy on how the liberal bloggers ferreted out the website. Do you have any info on that?

I'm not sure of the details about how the bloggers found his escort service websites. But I have seen some of the pictures (not that I'm condoning that sort of thing!) and there is no doubt it's him. I guess the question is, if those crazy bloggers could dig this stuff up in a matter of days, why couldn't the secret service do it over the course of two years? Gannon/Guckert/whoever is just not very good PR for Republicans right now. Pretty sordid stuff.

Sheesh. It's not like he was a former bar-bouncer and had access to super-sensitive-personal-FBI-files or something?

You don't think it's just a coinkydink that Gannon is the name of the editor who trashed Gosch's family during times less sensitive, perhaps, to the plight of missing children ... now as commonplace as milk cartons.

Must have been the lack of an Intel Czar.

Thankfully, ludicrously large and unfathomable breaches like these are a thing of the past.

Coincidence? I seriously doubt it. Obviously you too doubt that it was a coincidence.

Today, I listened to the Alex Jones radio program. Tom Flocco and John De Camp were guests. (Both men are friends of Noreen Gosch.) Senator De Camp said that after receiving certain information that he was 97 l/2% positive that Gannon is Gosch.

The guests brought forward some strange coincidences that have happened since Gannon was identified as a pornographer, namely that Hunter S. Thompson committed suicide, and that two days later Rusty Nelson was arrested (story about Nelson,Bless the Beasts and the Children is here: www.tomflocco.com Troy Bonner, one of the victims, was found dead in a chair in his hospital room with blood running from his mouth. All of these people were somehow connected with the Franklin Cover-Up and all of these events have occurred since the re-printing of DeCamp's book last month. WHAT IS GOING ON?
