That deployment was announced months ago, no direct connect. Also announce was a new carrier doctrine, rapid deploy something or other. In short US was going t develop ability to deploy 5 or 5 carrier battle groups in short order instead of one or two.
We will be lucky if the shooting does not start in the next 6 to 8 months.
Verrry funny. Both your security credentials and the "blackjack" of B-2s comment.....
One mistake though in your line of thinking..."We need their cheap goods"...
China hasn't cornered the market on poverty. There are places that produce cheaper than China. China is chosen because of politics.
The idea that WE have some economic need of them is just a front for a political desire.
Its a noble desire and all, but thats still the case.
If China fell off the map next week it wouldn't have hardly a blip worth of difference for us. Within a month or two we would be doing things almost as if nothing ever happened in the first place.
It takes a big man to admit his mistake! ;-)
Can't say. I've thought the same thing in the past too.
If they attacked Japan, or Taiwan, or Korea...or interrupted sea lanes...
That would then be an issue for sure.
About 1/3 of all our exports go to Asia excluding China. Maybe 3%(if that)go to China itself.
The interconnectivity of Asia is what would have a HUGE effect on us...
American intelligence agencies have revealed a huge build-up in Chinese assault forces - apparently designed to invade Taiwan - as China's leaders made new overtures for a peaceful agreement with the island republic.
US officials said China was racing to complete 23 amphibious ships able to ferry tanks and troops across the 160-kilometre-wide Taiwan Strait and 13 submarines to protect them, according to a New York Times report.
"Their amphibious assault shipbuilding alone equals the entire US Navy shipbuilding since 2002," one official said.
Makes one wonder if maybe the Peoples Liberation Army did not inform there leaders that the time is now. The PLA has long prepared and long wanted this showdoen. Could be the PLA is calling the shots and not the civiian leadership.
Not exactly.
Those are some options of course, but there are many more options than that.
I say developing alternative destinations is one HUGE one. Not regulation, but DE-regulation is another (aka fta agreements). I am for a combination of the two.
If we sent emmissaries to Africa or India and really hammered out a preferential treatment deal, or to the Phillippines, or especially Vietnam...then China all the sudden has competition that it can't hang with.
There are several, many, destinations that have cheaper labor than China.
Doing what I am talking about is not done mainly because of politics.
I'll take that bet.
Simple answer is you had two different Chinas.
"Could be the PLA is calling the shots and not the civiian leadership".
Good thought, a lot of people have been lulled by the 2008 Olympics.
It's because they believe the prattle put out by their allies here in the US.
Our "domestic enemy" the CommiecRAT party has been whining about a quagmire,
and overextended forces while doing everything within their power to make that bs true.
got pictures of them, beautiful things
I watched Lou Dobbs is evening, and he had the same thought. PLA plays a huge role in forming Chicom policy, in fact warlords (army) ruled China (behind the scenes) for thousands of years. It would not be at all surprising if the PLA was not forcing a hard line on the communits rulers. Certainly the timing for the communists is not exactly great.
Well were are streched thin, but this will be a US NAvy operation with a big assist from USAF. Both are much better shape then US Army or USMC in terms of available assets. We should watch for a faint, maybe from NK or Iran or some other Chicom pal.
