Rush to Judgment (by John Gibson)
Fox News ^ | March 8 2005 | John Gibson

Posted on 03/08/2005 11:41:06 AM PST by Zechariah_8_13

Giuliana Sgrena, the Italian journalist hostage, is now saying that American troops shot at her car on purpose trying to kill her.

The White House says the claim is absurd.

In addition, let me point out some other absurdities:

First, Ms. Sgrena is from a communist newspaper called Il Manifesto (search). So how many of you think Il Manifesto sent her to Iraq to report on how well Iraq is doing after its first free election? None of you? What a smart bunch. Of course it didn't.

She is an ardent anti-American who was going to Iraq to do a hatchet job on the American effort there and — silly her — she didn't realize the Iraqi insurgent kidnapers didn't really care if she thought they were noble freedom fighters. They just wanted her sorry bones to ransom.

What's more, she now admits they treated her well. Gee, now, that's a surprise. When we all saw that tape of Ms. Sgrena begging for her life with her hands held in prayer — imagine a reporter for a communist paper praying — everybody thought things must really be rough. Now it turns out they told her what to say and how to say it and she acted her part.

Also, The Washington Times is reporting Monday that the $6 million ransom was not Italian government money, but personal funds of the media mogul Silvio Berlusconi — who just happens to be the prime minister.

So what do you think the chances are that Ms. Sgrena cooperated with her captors to squeeze some cash out of what she would regard as a capitalist pig, the media mogul and prime minister Mr. Berlusconi?

Think I'm stretching there?

In any case, she's now blaming the Americans for shooting up her car...

Thought this was a good, succinct commentary on Sgrena. Turns out that Freepers aren't the only ones who think the "kidnapping" may have been a setup. Let's hope that the truth comes out.

Sgrena represents the average viewpoint of Europe. We should have let Hitler do what he wanted with them.

Giuliana Sgrena, the Italian journalist hostage, is now saying that American troops shot at her car on purpose trying to kill her.

An insane premise by a person overly impressed with herself.

Her claim is debunked by the fact that she is still alive!

Didn't the earlier reports say she was killed?

Accept for a moment her theory that they deliberately targeted her. Has anyone asked her real quickly so she doesn't have time to think how the soldiers knew that was her in that car?

She's kidding herself... if the US wanted her dead, she would be dead.

As she should be. To bad the agent had to die instead of her.

...not so fast in your Euro-identity work Fox News (especially your house leprechaun saying, "It's only the French!"). It's going to get a lot uglier. The Italian government is blaming the USA, and over 20,000 people showed up to rally against the USA at the bagman's funeral. It's western Europe.

The Italian PM would have been smart to label this an unfortunate accident, and the dead agent a hero. Now he will be sucked into a detailed investigation which will highlight his role in causing this tragedy.

>>if the US wanted her dead, she would be dead.<<

Exactly!

Like Shiwan Khan says in The Shadow, "If I wanted you dead your head would be on a pole right now"

The American MSM (maybe that should be anti-American MSM) tried to play this up on their evening news shows tonight. Anything to bash Bush, but I doubt if it will gain much traction. Most people, even in Europe, are smart enough to know this woman is a communist liar.
