IIRC, Maine tried this and ended up repealing the snack tax.

Oh, the machinery, tobacco and tube quality is so much better nowadays. I can crank out a carton in the time it takes to watch one of my trusty MST3K movies. I even keep a box in my mailbox at work and invite anyone to have one if they want -they're that cheap.

Sorry.  I had to step away from the computer for awhile.

Yes, I have been rolling my own for over 4 years.  When the state raised the taxes one more time bringing my Premium's to $45-$50 a carton, I threw my hands in the air and took the advise of fellow FReepers to start rolling my own.

For a little under $8 dollars, I can roll a beautiful carton and the savings has been mind boggling.  I have never looked back.

You can buy the Supermatic Machine over the Internet and the local Smoke Shop plus grocery stores in town all sell the bags of loose tobacco and the filtered tubes.   The machine runs about $50 dollars but lasts a long time.  You can also find the filtered tubes and different tobacco's over the Internet as well.

Why don't they tax their own sorry asses to raise money? A 100% levy on their gross tax payer funded incomes would bring them in line with what they're worth. If they all quit, it would be good for the people.

Damn. Just damn.

I'm hooked on Farmer's Gold, myself. I got a bag of this, "Valu-CRAP" stuff that took forever to get rid of. Back to the good stuff. I'm thinking about trying those rice paper tubes.

Heh! Nope. Toll roads are a joke anyway. They should just be honest about it when they build and charge it in the first place.

Exactly. A few years back I took a 90 leave without pay. Nine families starved to death or had to cancel their Disney World vacations all because of my selfishness. The guilt is overwhelming. I'll never do that again.

Thanks. Great info. They are NOT going to get a penny of these taxes from me. I don't even HAVE any kids and I'm not going to fund a broken school system this way.

I have also been buying lately from the above for the 1 lb bags of menthol tobacco and they also sell the filtered tubes for $1.99 for 200.

You're right. I thought I had the link to that, but I don't. I wonder why it didn't fly?

To think that we vote these idiots into office.  Once in, they could care less about their constituents.

Some keep telling me that I should enjoy the cheap roll now, because the lawmakers will catch on to it, and then roll your own tobacco will be taxed to death.

But it will be quite some time before they can get a bag of 1lb tobacco up to $45-$50 a bag!  I will take my chances.

Oh yes, I found a bunch of hard plastic flip top cases over at Ebay.  They come in all colors to match everything.  I love them.

Not very expensive either.

Finding tubes and tobacco around here is difficult, and since my husband spends so much work time in Maryland and Delaware he continued to get it up there..but then the place we used to get it from changed owners and did away with all the RYO supplies. We went back to store boughts because they were only $9 a carton and no money going to MSA.

He has since stopped smoking cigarettes and found a new tobacco/Cigar place and that's where he found this for me to try.

Why am I not suprised? They probably justified it by all the overtime they put in trying to figure out how they can screw us.
