Slava Bogu -- Praise to the Lord.
Photo in post 48 -- could work as the cover of a Tolstoy novel. Hmm, perhaps for a collection of his short stories.
In Moscow last week, Mr Fusion outlined a number of concerns he found with the Russian security program for the Metro. He noted that while an unattended package will be removed immediately, empty half liter beer bottles often litter the subway car floors. Much too easy to fill these with semtex, etc and leave behind in the crowded cars. In addition the packed escalators (some almost 80 meters in length) seem to have a number of structural weaknesses that can canalize aggression.
The most vulnerable stations -- the complex multi-level platforms running off the circular ("brown") line. These stations have many blind corners and nooks that operate outside the electronic security surveillance reach. Finally, a comprehensive search and review of all the station entrance kiosks should commence -- going to have to do it before the VIP visit in May, so might as well start now.
Anyway it doesn't really matter -- reports from Istanbul indicate Maskhadov may not be the individual killed in the attack. To quote Mr Fusion once more: "War in June -- Oil up soon."
J
Up til now, he was only slightly dead
Now, on THAT day I will be out cheering in the street.
" Aslan Maskhadov, a rebel leader and former president of Chechnya, maintained terrorist attacks perpetrated by Chechens were "unavoidable" because of Russia's policies."
That is what he said after Beslan. Vermin.
LOL. Good news indeed!
I saw the picture of his corpse and have been feeling guilty for being sad that his death just doesn't look like it was painful enough.
The last time people said Aslan was dead, he beat the snot out of the White Witch and set those kids up as the rulers of Narnia.
Or is this some other Aslan?
This moderate hero of yours had armies that killed many Russian boys in the 1994 war. He's an Islamist since he made common cause with the Islamists and Jihadists/ I'm glad he got wasted
Ping.
"Since it has been taken over by Islamists and compromised by terrorism, the independence cause has all but lost hope of international recognition," he said.
A simple rule that I learned during the cold war: You should not trust the Russian government. It is still valid.

Rebel Mashkadov says Putin 'misinformed'
Grozny, Russia, Mar. 8 (UPI) -- Separatist Chechen rebel leader Aslan Mashkadov claims Russian President Vladimir Putin is "profoundly misinformed" about the situation in Chechnya.
In an interview with Radio Free Europe published Tuesday, Mashkadov alleged Putin was operating on flawed information given him by top Russian generals, his aides and what Maskhadov refers to as the "puppet" pro-Moscow regime installed in Grozny.
Maskhadov said a half-hour, face-to-face dialogue with Putin would be sufficient to explain to the Russian president what the Chechens want and thus end the war. However, Putin has repeatedly stated he would never negotiate with terrorists.
Maskhadov spoke of his insurgence as "saving our people from arbitrary Russian reprisals and barbarity," and added "we shall consider we have achieved that goal when we deprive Russia of the right to continue killing Chechens with impunity."
"The war will continue," he said. "Chechen mujahadeen will resist to the end in this struggle, and the flame of this conflagration will spread to the entire North Caucasus."
