Well, I think "blasts the Oscars", used in the headline is a little strong for the quotes they used. He was critical of them, but made valid points. The campaigns for Oscars do cost a lot of money, including ads and sometimes hundreds of copies of the DVDs sent to Academy members. They are a marketing tool, and become less relevant each year.

I agree about the Oscars celebrating mediocrity.

I saw Hotel Rwanda, and it was the most powerful film I have seen in a long time.

The most powerful film to have come out in the past year was The Passion of the Christ. For the Oscars to completely ignore it shows just how out of touch they are.

You're absolutely right... Gibson just said it like it is.
