I had my first Yuengling (well, more than one, actually...) two weeks ago, in D.C.

Disappointing to get back and find that I couldn't get it here, not even deep behind enemy lines in Austin! It reminded me of a similar experience with scrapple (in Philadelphia). I still can't get scrapple here; hope Yuengling gets here sooner.

It kinda reminds of "Smokey and the Bandit" where the story line was basically getting Coors beer to Atlanta from Texas. Maybe we can get those truckers rolling north to south. I have seen Yuengling in Alabama so it is getting close!

Subject: Scrapple

Plain Old Pennsylvania Dutch Scrapple

Ingredients

1/2 pound chopped raw pork
1-1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 cup corn meal 1 medium onion, chopped
1-1/4 quarts water

Directions

Brown onion slowly in a little fat. Add meat, seasoning and water.
Cook at simmering point 20 minutes. Add corn meal and cook over
medium heat for one hour. Turn into loaf pan and cool. Cut in slices
and fry in fat until brown. Serve with gravy or tomato sauce.
