I still have to look into the "at-home" reforming system

It's not a reforming system. The vehicle burns the hydrogen, it doesn't react it in a fuel cell. The hydrogen is stored in a metal hydride tank and is released as a gas when the tank is heated. The gas is piped to the engine and into the ignition chambers via the fuel injection system.

The at-home hydrogen creation system is nothing more than two electrodes in a tank. You put water in the tank, add some table salt to allow for electrical conduction, and plug the unit in. On one electrode oxygen bubbles out of the water. On the other electrode, hydrogen bubbles out.

You can do this at home with a power supply, glass jar, teaspoon of salt, copper wire and alligator clips. It's a fun science experiment.

"It's a fun science experiment."

Its true, electrolysis is very easy, and it is an experiment done in every high school science class in America. If you don't store large amounts of hydrogen in gas or liquid form, there is little danger from producing it in your garage. That's the beauty of the United Nuclear system: the hydrogen is chemically bonded to the hydrides.

and at the other end of those electrodes is a big-ass coal-burning power plant (or more and more common, natural gas). Hydrogen is not an energy source. There are no vast deposits of hydrogen anywhere (maybe outer space?). Until we solve the problem with power generation, fossil fuels are the only game in town (hydroelectric is tapped-out, solar is expensive, nuclear is controversial, dilithium crystals are rare...)

I understand that there is not an on-site reformer that goes with the fuel cell in the vehicle. But the fuel cell runs on hydrogen fuel. So you make it at home, put it into a tank and then the hydrogen is fed to the fuel cell which reacts with air on a catalyst producing electricity.

I am aware of creating hydrogen with two electrodes however - it is very easy but in order to power a car you need a lot of hydrogen which cannot be made in abundance with this type of simple experiment.

I was wondering ?
The amount of energy used ( solar cell panels installed on your home roof or property or electricity from the electric company ) volts, watts, amps, or however you measure the amount you use in a hour, does it matter if it's just 9 volts, or 220 volts, in the amount of hydrogen gas you would produce for the day to full up your car ?
Or the more energy use or put in to make the hydrogen gas, the more hydrogen gas you get out or produced ?
Or ? whether you use just 9 volts, or 220 volts, you would get the same amount for the day on how much you need at the time ?
If a solar cell panel is used in this system, and it is sufficient to produce the amount of hydrogen gas you need at the time,, then why not use it.
If I can produce the same amount of hydrogen gas from a 9 volt battery as I can from a 220 volt source ( if that is true ) than, we can surely use solar panels on our homes or in some kind of system with multiple sources to run this thing.
I guess,, to make sure you don't run out of hydrogen gas in the tank, you would put a pressure regulator in it, kinda like how your hot-water heater works, when the amount of hydrogen in the tank goes down to a certain level, it will automatically start up and bring the amount of hydrogen gas to a level in the tank so you won't run out of the gas if you were to fill your cars tank, or need it for you home.
Also with this system, you would need a back out line hooked up the the Gas& Electric company for a backup in case something goes wrong with the hydrogen producer union. Maybe you can make a system to use multiple sources of energy.

Watch out for the chlorine gas.
