Why Hillary Clinton and John Kerry want to let criminals vote.
Monday, March 7, 2005 12:01 a.m.
The Constitution grants states the authority to determine "the Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections," but Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are pushing a Count Every Vote Act that would, among other things, force states to allow voters to register at the polls and declaring Election Day a federal holiday. And then they want to force every state to let felons vote--even though the 14th Amendment specifically permits states to disfranchise citizens convicted of "participation in rebellion, or other crime."

Stories like this are just a waste of time. It's like saying Arlen Specter wants to pass legislation to increase taxes. Who cares. Even if it's true...he doesn't have the power to beat the other 54 Republican Senators. Hitlery and Kerry are in the minority. They can claim they want to kill my children and it doesn't make any difference. They don't have power. Fund should spend some time in reality and stop writing irresponsible headlines designed to confuse Americans and sell papers. He is part of the problem when he does this. Shame on him.

Apparently they've not foreseen the consequences of lost tax
revenue by creating a straw-man holiday.
Bumbling idiots.

Felons are the ultimate welfare recipients. And a treasure trove of votes for Leftists seeking to keep people perpetually dependent on government. Now we know why liberals are so fond of criminals! Its a mutually beneficial racket.

Felons are already voting (see Wash.State).
Would this mean they get to vote twice?

To be truthfull, I know a few exfelons, those that would trouble themselves to take the time to vote would vote GOP, the others wouldn't bother if given the chance.

More likely federal union employees will have the day off and private sector employees will probably have to still work.
(they would probably mandate it be a paid holiday too.)

I agree that Hillary and Kerry "don't have power" to give felons the right to vote.
I respectfully, but strongly disagree, that Fund's story is off-base.
First, if Dems recaptured the Senate and the House in 2006 (unlikey, but possible), they might be able to push something like this through. If they put it in a military appropriation bill that President Bush needed, he might be forced to sign it just to get troops the funds and supplies they need.
Second, people of all political persuasions need to know what Hillary would do IF she had the power to do so. If she became President, it would greatly improve her chances of getting something like this through. By publicizing her air-brained ideas, Fund can diminish the chances that voters would elect Hillary to the Presidency.
Third, by publicizing the Hillary/Kerry ideas about federally-requiring states to let felons vote, it reinforces the well-deserved image of Dems as being criminal-coddlers out of touch with most Americans.

The Republicans could kill this in the proverbial NY minute:
Add a rider that says proof of citizenship must be shown in order to vote.
