Just how is one supposed to know that the 3s are reversed to be Es? Common and less-common substitutions for numbers:
I've bolded the less-common substitutions. If it's within quotation marks, treat it as phonetic.

If you're going to use the less-common meanings for numbers, your meaning is going to be harder to discern (which could be good or bad--after all, what's the fun of having a dirty license plate if no one ever gets it?) More Examples:

I think the best dirty plates are those with #LLL## (L letter # number) because they look like non-vanity plates unless you think about them. Using numbers as letters helps to achieve this. Yep... reminds me of one I saw about 15 years ago:

Thanks for the link! That was hysterical!
NH folks can test their desired vanity plates using this link:
http://199.192.9.86/platecheck/search.asp
When I tried "H8LIBS", it told me "H8 is not allowed." However, when I tried "AXLIBS", it was OK, and even showed me a picture of what the plate would look like! Ha!

What made it even sweeter was how picky the Virginia DMV people were about vanity plates. They can't be all that picky - there's a guy driving around town here with a plate that says CLSTRFK.

Okay, here's my personalized plate sighting story:
I was in traffic and pulled up to a red light. A lane over and a couple cars ahead was a red covertible 'vette with a young blonde female driver. I immediately had two thoughts:
1 - She didn't pay for that car, and
2 - I bet the guy who did really gets laid.
As the light turned green and the vette pulled away, I was able to read the plate: "he does".
It doesn't get any better than that.

When ever I see a plate that is written for a female, some poor guy is driving the car.
