Try and tell a Libertarian that their dream world is utopian. About the best you can expect in return is some reference to "Atlas Shrugged".

I do agree with your comments.

Actually I'd say that (consistent) libertarians are not Utopians, or at least that their utopianism is not like that associated with political extremism of the absolutist/totalitarian pole. This is because there are central elements of the libertarian ideology -- e.g. individualism, laissez faire -- that mitigate directly against absolutism, and indeed are elements of classical liberalism, the opposite political tendency.

This is not to say that there aren't extremist wingnuts would label themselves as libertarians. But anyone who holds that the libertarian philosophy must be realized in a Utopian fashion, that is through systematic destruction of the existing order, has obviously abandoned other key elements of the libertarian philosophy such as volunteerism and non coercion.
