Actually I'd say that (consistent) libertarians are not Utopians, or at least that their utopianism is not like that associated with political extremism of the absolutist/totalitarian pole. This is because there are central elements of the libertarian ideology -- e.g. individualism, laissez faire -- that mitigate directly against absolutism, and indeed are elements of classical liberalism, the opposite political tendency.

This is not to say that there aren't extremist wingnuts would label themselves as libertarians. But anyone who holds that the libertarian philosophy must be realized in a Utopian fashion, that is through systematic destruction of the existing order, has obviously abandoned other key elements of the libertarian philosophy such as volunteerism and non coercion.

It only bothers me that "some are worried more about being sued" ..first and foremost and they keep repeating.."I was afraid I would be sued" if going public...we tend to think of ourselves first?

Sad society..
Yikes! I might get sued!
I-Me-My-Mine mentality.

The public is forgiving when one gives all they have to give without thought of ones own well being.

This is what disturbs me on this agent and his remarks. Just my opinion; as I would never offer any judgements against this man, for we could have all made the same mistake..but he seemed aware he would be acting in a very politically incorrect manner. It is said we are given "signs", and I believe that with great heart. We just have to listen to "the inner voice" and act accordingly.

I doubt very much if any of us would have done anything differently then he did.  Even though the terrorist was acting snarky, and even though no one could have known what was going to happen, there was no way anyone could have detained this idiot.

All he was doing was checking in, being nasty, giving nasty looks.  But a lot of people are like that when they fly because they hate being there.  I probably would have ushered him through as quickly as I could while still doing the required search.

Tuohey asked the standard security questions, which he'd asked thousands of travelers:

"Has anyone unknown to you asked you to carry an item on board the aircraft?"

No.

"Has any item you're carrying been out of your control since the time you packed them?"

No.

Knowing the government, they will now start asking "Are you planning to hijack or blow-up this or any other plane?"
