Freed Journalist Recounts Ordeal

ROME — The Italian journalist who was wounded by American troops at a checkpoint in Baghdad shortly after she was released by her Iraqi captors denied U.S. allegations that the car she was in was speeding. In an article Sunday, she called her ordeal "the most dramatic day of my life."

-snip-

The U.S. military said the Americans used hand and arm signals, flashing white lights and fired warning shots to get the car to stop. But in an interview with Italian La 7 TV, Sgrena said "there was no bright light, no signal."

I wanna get my theory in here that her "abduction" was just a way to funnel money to her Islamofascist Terrorist buddies. With or without the knowledge of some in the Italian Government.

In a German version of this story they quote Sgrena:

We weren't sure at first where the shots were coming from, she said. "It wasn't the checkpoint, but a patrol that fired at us after they had beamed a spotlight on us."

"Uns war zuerst überhaupt nicht klar, woher die Schüsse kamen", sagte sie. "Es war nicht der Kontrollpunkt, sondern eine Patrouille, die auf uns schoss, nachdem sie uns mit einem Scheinwerfer angestrahlt hatte."

further....

Fire and bullets rained down on us and silenced the happy mood forever", Sgrena wrote for her newspaper from the hospital. The driver called out that they were Italian. Then Calipari threw himself over her and " I immediately felt his last breath as he died", she wrote further. In that moment she remembered the words of her captives who warned her to be very cautious, "Because the Americans don't want you to return".

and, in another paragraph....

A feelance employee for the TV station Al Jazeera eventually handed over Sgrena to the Italian secret service personell, reported "Corriere della Sera". A spokesman for the station denied that. A half hour after the hand over the deadly shots were fired.

My translation.

"Spiegel-Online"...."Zeit"-Chefredakteur zweifelt an US-Angaben

Yesterday I read that Sgrena was handed over at about 5 PM. I think the attack was at about 9 PM, is that correct?

There's a lot here that doesn't add up. It seems like embellishments are being added to create doubts about the American story and to promote the 'Americans are targetting journalists' angle. Eason Jordan's revenge?

I also question if the magazine paid the ransom rather than the government.

I'm in Dublin this week, and the news coverage from CNN International is nothing short of disgraceful. They are even more biased than the US version. They present, as their TOP story, this lying C's comments at face value. NO mention that she's a commie or anything else.

Everybody here should travel to Europe once just to understand why they are a bunch of kooks. Not one news outlet is spared the extreme lib spin. There's maybe one conservative paper in the UK and then all bets are off.

Too bad traveling to Europe means putting money in Eurinal pockets!

So far not one damned word about her period of "captivity" (which is dubious to me anyhow)....all the commentary is about the shooting.

My main concern is that our Warriors are protected, all this BS of bring soldiers up on charges is really getting to me. Some of these A**H01es forget that this is war. Especially the enemy within our own borders. They repulse me, especially when they are enjoying freedom that was bought with the price of the Armed Forces blood, past and present........just my opinion........

"The sad part of this is, because this woman is "a journalist", our mainstream media will defend this woman and use this episode to continue their condemnation of our military!"

Our lamestream media will not defend her because she is "a journalist", they will defend her because she is a communist!

Exactly! I was having a really great conversation with a tall blonde Irish gal, until she asked if I really loved the US. Then she asked how I could live in a place of rednecks and a moron like Bush. Needless to say, that was the end of that, after I finished scolding her.

By the way, why isn't the US coming out and discrediting this commie C?

I hope this brouhaha doesn't get any U.S. servicemen killed in the future by holding their fire on a speeding car, thinking, "maybe it's just another bunch of stupid Italians.."

Yes, I feel protective of our servicemen, too. They'd better continue to shoot to kill. Those Italians knew better. I'd just really like to hear a full expose' of this.

Meanwhile, an autopsy performed on the agent who died trying to save Giuliana Sgrena (search) reportedly showed he was struck in the temple by a single round and died instantly as the car carrying Sgrena sped to the Baghdad airport.

Wow. What incredible marksmen those eeeeevil US Troops are: 300-400 rounds and only on gets him right in the temple. What an incredible coincidence!

Wll, OBVIOUSLY they were aiming for the journalist; After all, I hear from unnamed but reliable sources that US soldiers like to string up journalists with barbed wire, put panties on their heads and shoot at them. /S

Good point. But what you may not realize is that George W. Bush hopped on an SR-71 and flew to Iraq so he'd be there in time to pull the trigger on them. That's the story the MSM needs to get out!!!

Considering how good a shot most of our guys are, IF we had been targeting this woman, she'd be dead. She's either a collabborator or she suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

The MSM is still beating the drum on this today and blaming the soldiers it seems to me at least.
