According to the last polls I had seen, PM Blair would be re-elected. Although he isn't Conservative, I want him to win again. In the last term he has proved he's a great leader.

the sooner Blair is gone the better, he's trying to scam the Brits into signing up for the 4th reich (ie European constitution) so he's got to go.

But he'll win anyway since the opposition is so poor.

Won't the Tories be harder on terror then Labour?

As an American, I like Tony for obvious reasons but if I were British I'd probably vote against him.

But joining the European "Union" is subject to a vote by the British people, and not an act of Parliament, right?

And so it makes no difference which party wins, right?

Or am I wrong?

It looks like it's true. Howard is doing something rather cunning - when Labour won in 1997, it was because they were reassuring the public they could be trusted to run the economy and taxes, a Tory strong point. Now the Tories are reassuring the public they can be trusted to run education and health, Labour strong points. Very clever.

I shot off the mouth too quickly; the fingers work on the keyboard faster than the brain thinks.

I meant, "approval of the European 'Union' constitution," not "joining the European 'Union.'"

Excresence happens.

Is Howard as committed to defeat terrorism and spread freedom as PM Blair?

It's difficult to say what his exact position on terrorism is. One thing that is certain is that he would be much harder on illegal immigration than Blair is. The Tories have also pledged to boost spending on the military, which is sorely needed. The last benefit is that the Tories are opposed to the EU Constitution.

Given all this, I think Howard would be a marginal improvement on Blair in a number of areas, and in other areas, probably about the same as Blair.

Would he keep the British troops in Iraq until the job is finished? What's his position on North Korea, Iran, Syria and Lebanon?

If the Tories promote sane conservative values in Britain, they could be the party of the people in a way that labor could never dream of. I remember listening to the BBC, on the radio, a few years ago and they were talking about how the Tories were all finished. The people were talking about how there was no real conservative movement in Britain like there was in the United States. I would be very happy if Britain has a true conservative party emerge, whether they are called Tories or not. This post is encouraging news.

I am sure he would keep the troops there - Howard would face opposition within his own party if he tried to do otherwise.

As for North Korea, Iran, Syria and Lebanon - I can say with some certainty that on Korea, Syria and Lebanon, he would echo the American position. Iran, I'm not sure about.

Thanks for the info. Anyway, I support PM Blair.

Which party will you vote for?

I don't fully trust Howard, so I'll vote UK Independence Party.

Who do you prefer as PM for the next term - Blair or Howard?

What I would prefer is for Blair to remain Prime Minister, but the Tories to be the party in Parliament and providing most of the Ministers.

I'm not going to get that, however. :) Overall, I'd rather a Tory government, partially for historical reasons - I don't trust the Labour Party, and I never will.

I know PM Blair is an exception in his party - he's more moderate than the mainstream of the Labourists.

Are there many Blair Tories because of his strong leadership regarding the WOT?

I suspect there are a fair number of people like me who admire Blair's international leadership but who can never, ever bring themselves to vote Labour. It was difficult enough to vote UKIP as opposed to Tory.
