Shocking research reveals teenagers who smoke cannabis are twice as likely to develop psychosis.
The ABC's Four Corners TV program tomorrow night airs research that shows the human brain does not fully develop until the early 20s, placing pot-smoking teenagers at risk of suffering significant and permanent damage.
The New Zealand research destroys the myth that cannabis is a soft drug and experts say today's hydroponic marijuana is being "morphed" into a different substance from that smoked by the hippie generation.
Psychiatrist Dr Andrew Campbell said the widespread use among young people one in five teenagers uses cannabis was a "tsunami waiting to happen".
"This is going to get worse before it gets better . . . We've already got an epidemic in incidents of psychosis. Cannabis makes teenagers think they are king of the world and in control . . . but if they don't stop using it they're in big trouble," Dr Campbell said.
He is calling for schizophrenia to be called "drug-induced psychosis", and estimates about 80 per cent of his patients have used cannabis.
"Often when users stop smoking is when they start experiencing psychosis," he said.
Oh well, that seals it then.
Dataless impressions are good enough Scientific Method for me.
If I were (I have six kids) then wouldn't you, as a Libertarian, support my right to be and do whatever I please (aka, Chaos Theory)?
You haveto put this all in perspective. This cannabis induced psychosis nonsense is coming from Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain. Three places where the people have had enough of the War on Marijuana and the laws are starting to fall. Its a last ditch effort by the Prohibitionists, nothing more.
I'm a Republican.
Of the "Log Cabin" variety, I'd wager...which is really not "Republican" at all now, is it?
You said "log".
No they are piloted by aliens who smoked pot, and thats why they always appear as teenagers.LOL
Ops4 God BLess America!

No thanks...I suspect that the link you posted is not my "cup of tea"...but it might be your "sea of sewage."
It's nothing dirty. I promise. Check it out, you might learn something.
Is Mr. Leroy posting under your Freep name?
Yes. Myself, Mr. Leroy, Arne Fufkin, Kevin Curry, and VA Advogado share an apartment and use my account.
Is that a "bump" or a "ping" or merely a mini-rant?
The beauty business does the same thing, making everyone feel old, fat, ugly and in need of some expensive beauty product.
Come to think of it, the auto business does that too, as does the fitness business, clothing industry. Why, I think we have something here. People with holes in their souls search for SOME/ANYthing to fill it. Drugs, food, stuff...whatever. Weak people.
Trying to fix a hole is in the soul with drugs is for people with a hole in their head.
"I put three of them permanently out of police work. It was a pleasure."
Taking pleasure from creating discord is the spirit of the adversary. Sounds like its time for a little exorcism or perhaps repentance might be sufficient. Good luck with that and may peace be with you.
I worry about Ritilan too. I had three boys. They were active, busy, couldn't focus on things that didn't interest them all the time, got in trouble in school sometimes for not sitting still....but I had a very good old fashioned pediatrian. When I asked him if the younges (and most active!) had ADHD (which was just starting to be talked about) he said, "Don't be silly. You have three active NORMAL boys!" Another doctor might have prescribed ritilan. Thanks to God that it didn't happen.

Really good questions. I suppose pot smoking makes one brilliant. Wonder why I hadn't noticed that about the pot smokers I know?

And apparently long term pot use causes an inability to communicate without using lots of vulgar language.
How can your kids not know if you are very open (as you said) about your pot use? How stupid do you really think kids are? (and btw, earth to you, unless your kids are very young, they DO know what you and your wife are doing in the bedroom.)

I have only one friend that drinks. He just had a heart attack, so I think his drinkin' days are over. He drank wine with dinner -- too much wine. He like the taste of it.
I imagine he liked the buzz he got too. I'm sure he enjoyed losing the finer inhibitions of normal conduct that booze and drugs bring about. I can see what it does; I just don't understand why enjoyment has to come from losing self-control. Never did; never will. I'm a jockett and enjoy the natural adrenalin rush of heavy exercise. No control lost, just exhiliaration felt. THAT I understand.
