Robert Casey Jr. Says He'll Run Against Santorum by KYW's Tony Romeo

Robert Casey Jr., being wooed by national Democrats to challenge incumbent Republican senator Rick Santorum for his US Senate seat from Pennsylvania, has decided to jump into the race.

Earlier this week, Governor Rendell was asked about the prospects for a fight over the Democratic nomination for US Senate:

“I hope, in all cases, if we can avoid a Democratic primary, that would be a good result. But until anybody declares their intentions, it’s impossible. I’m not going to pick up the phone and talk to other candidates until I hear that someone definitely wants to run.”

After the governor made those remarks on Wednesday, former Pennsylvania treasurer (and former Republican) Barbara Hafer told the Associated Press she would run.

Then on Friday, when current treasurer Robert Casey Jr. also said he would run, Rendell did pick up the phone. Hafer has released a statement saying she’ll honor the governor’s wishes and stay out of the race.

specter as the head of the judiciary at a time when democrats are filibustering is foolish or planned

Please name a judge nominee that Specter has blocked since becoming head of the judiciary

I don't think you will see the national republican ticket putting any money into PA for 2008 - its moving into the solid Dem category - no different then NY or NJ.

I admit we are in a battle .. but we are not yet blue liberal like NY and NJ

However, if these "true" conservative keep voting for Dems .. then yes .. there will be no hope for PA

"you see you are a party hack"

Now now, watch the name calling.
Your logic is a bit twisted but that's no reason to get nasty.
Just try to explain why you vote for a liberal democrat to keep a liberal republican from chairing the Judicial Committee where the President needs republicans to get his nominees approved?

as for me i'm not into preserving the statu quo because it's not working even tho the republicans enticed me to join their party in 94 with the promosises of change but when we voted them in power they took to the status quo like ducks to water and after ten years of a pat and lick i realized a majority didn't matter.

Well, at least we are in agreement that he is a loyal Republican. More than Specter can contend.

As far as conservatism I recall Santorum got blasted as a homophobe and bigot for suggesting a change in the law would open the way for homosexual marriage and polygamy. He defended the constitution and possible abuse of the judiciary over state rights with his argument. I would say that is certainly one mark of a conservative.

Santorum is more than a loyal Republican IMO.
He's a true conservative leader.

Please somebody on this thread explain Pat Toomey's conservative credentials to me?
He is a congressman from a rural area that was in the bar business before being a congressman.
What did he do as a congressman?
Rick has been battling liberals for a long time.
