SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Representatives from the United States and North Korea met Friday in the demilitarized zone dividing the two Koreas to discuss U.S. missions to recover the remains of Americans still missing from the Korean War, the U.S. military said.

The joint project, scheduled to begin in April, comes despite the ongoing international standoff on North Korea's nuclear weapons programs. The North claimed on Feb. 10 that it had developed nuclear weapons and would boycott international disarmament talks.

On Friday, the Americans and North Koreans worked out details of the mission at the truce village of Panmunjom on the heavily armed border that separates the two Koreas, an official at U.S. Forces Korea said on condition of anonymity.

Since 1996, the United States has recovered more than 200 bodies of American soldiers who went missing in the North during the 1950-53 Korean War.

The new recovery mission will continue until October at Changjin Lake and the city of Unsan in North Korea's northern regions.

That is exactly what has happened. A NK refugee testified that his former government collected the bones of dead GIs to sell off when things got tight.
