Parenting involves steering children towards the right choices. There was many a time that my father said to me that my disliking him was OK so long as I did what he said. And although at the time I had considerable dislike of the various parental restrictions he laid down, 35 years later I like him just fine. And I understand him a lot better.

None of his kids went to jail.

All of his kids married and have jobs.

None of his kids are substance abusers.

May I do as good a job with my kids.

Same here! My dad was stern to say the least! My every waking thought involved what my dad would do or say if he caught me doing this or that which kept me from doing this or that!

My son is 13 and we have homeschooled him through middle school due to the lack of discipline and learning going on at the school he would have attended. This year, he is going to return to public school for high school. I am not excited about it but it is a choice we are making to "just see how it goes". The girls at the high school dress better then the girls at the middle school. These mothers are training their daughters to get attention for the wrong reasons!!
