I will assume that you are using hyperbole to make a point.
Freedom is good, as long as it does not cost us anything?
Or, are you really unable to connect the dots. The middle east has been a stagnent pool where violence and hate (against us) has been allowed to fester because the people there had not hope for a better future.
The world had been willing to go along to get along with the dictators in the middle east as long as they kept the cost of oil low, and did not bother us too much.
The price of that oil began in the late 60s to today to include innocent lifes, as terrorist begin to bomb and kill first Israelis, and then anyone not like them, until they managed to kill over 3,000 Americans and bring down two towers.
The price of gasoline had already gone up over $8 a gallon. So my question to you is how many innocent lifes are you willing to let die (by ignoring the middle east) in order to keep gasoline cheap?
This administration may not have all the answers, but we all know the status quo was not working, and so far the changes appear to be good.
Wow!
I would be interested in knowing, as well. Lots of scenarios where actions and events might push up the price of oil. But what, indeed, would be the point?
Iran has been making noise lately that they will close the Strait of Hormuz should the world go too far in pressuring them over their nuclear programs. Now that could cause some world wide panic and pain. Here's a quick assessment from our Energy Information Administration's (Department of Energy) World Transit Chokepoints page:
Location: Oman/Iran; connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea
Oil Flows (2003E): 15-15.5 million bbl/d
Destination of Oil Exports: Japan, United States, Western Europe
Concerns/Background: By far the world's most important oil chokepoint, the Strait consists of 2-mile wide channels for inbound and outbound tanker traffic, as well as a 2-mile wide buffer zone. Closure of the Strait of Hormuz would require use of longer alternate routes (if available) at increased transportation costs. Such routes include the 5 million-bbl/d capacity Petroline (East-West Pipeline) and the 290,000-bbl/d Abqaiq-Yanbu natural gas liquids line across Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea. Theoretically, the 1.65-million bbl/d Iraqi Pipeline across Saudi Arabia (IPSA) also could be utilized, more oil could be pumped north to Ceyhan (Turkey), and the 0.5 million-bbl/d Tapline to Lebanon could be reactivated.
But, it seems to me, Iran would end up eventually paying the higher price for choking off the straits. Payback might become a bit ferocious.
And they also know that they only have three years before a new sheriff takes over from W, and that one might forsake them. They know they'd better strike while the iron is hot. The next three years are going to be GREAT!
Precisely 180 degrees wrong. The way to get gas to $8 is to leave the cartel in place. The way to destroy the cartel is to open the economies of the cartel countries to capitalism. The road to capitalism is Bush's push to democratic republics.
Having young, conservatives like yourself involved makes old geezers like me feel comfortable as our tenure starts to fizzle out. Count me in for a donation. When do they need to be sent in?
Yes, he certainly did !!
Guess you know a lot about oil exploration and refining, eh?
BTW, ever buy gasoline in the UK? (shaking head and rolling eyes)
My exact thought.
Dan
In Jimmy Carter's day, "eventually" might be the case. But in today's world, "eventually" is one week, tops.
Closing the Straits would be tantamount to a declaration of war, and not merely against the United States.
Cinci, I agree. Some folks like Chas1776 just parrot their uninformed liberal friends. Many in our family have been in the oil industry most of our lives. So we 'sorta' have a clue.
I can see you have your priorities straight. /s
If Daniel Schorr is writing things like this- there may soon be a picture of me eating my (straw, no less) hat...
What have I got to do to make Republicans love me
What have I got to do to make them care
What do I do when Bush lightning strikes me
And I wake to find dictators not there
What do I do to make them want me
What have I got to do to be heard
What do I say when my liberal buddies say it's all over
And sorry from a liberal seems to be the hardest word
It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation
And it's getting more and more absurd
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over
Oh it seems to me
That sorry from a liberal seems to be the hardest word
What do I do to make Republicans love me
What have I got to do to be heard
What do I do when Bush lightning strikes me
What have I got to do
What have I got to do
When sorry from a liberal seems to be the hardest word
He He He ....... Stupid liberals eating their hats! Gotta love it!
I heard GW gave Syria until May 1st to get out of town.
Great article! Could we say that payback might be in the form of a huge parking lot?
Slowly but surely the world will have to admit that the president was right after all
Thanks Geedee! I have until August to make my goal for the breast cancer walk. let me know if you need a paper form to send in instead of doing it online. And THANK YOU! I am nervous (I am seriously out of shape) but excited. I need a good goal to get in shape and this is it!
