WASHINGTON Mar 3, 2005 — Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has been ill for several days but has kept a regular, though reduced, work schedule mostly out of public view, his spokesman said Thursday.

"He picked up this bug that's going around," Lawrence Di Rita told reporters when asked about Rumsfeld's condition. "He's been in every day … He's tried to limit his contact with people a little bit because he's been sick."

Others on Rumsfeld's staff have been under the weather, including Di Rita.

Well this is why we haven't seen Rumsfeld lately. Dedicated people.

There's a nasty upper respiratory bug going around. You get it, get better for a few days, and then relapse worse than you were before. sinus and chest congestion, and makes you feel weak. Takes about six weeks to fully get over it.

My folks both had it, and they're about Rumsfeld's age. If that's what he has, and he's able to keep working, my hat's off to him. It put my dad flat on his back for several days.

Atta boy Rumsfeld!

Rumsfeld is a a rugged, plaid-wearing, beef jerky eating badass. His default expression is a determined scowl, like he's prepared to introduce you to the business end of his shoe if you look at him wrong.

Happening in my neck of the woods, too, and your description is exactly right.

Change of seasons does it, I guess. Body making adjustments.

I first read that Rumsfeld was sick days ago so it might be the bug you were talking about. Hope not.

Hard workers at the Pentagon. God Bless them and hope they get well soon.

Guess they had to postpone a hearing with Congress to next week. We will probably see the scowl again. Love it. Those Dems don't know who they are messing with.

It seems to be endemic around here (VA/DC/MD). I had it, thought I was over it, then wham, was worse than ever. I'm still getting back up to speed.

I've got that crap and a couple of friends have it as well. You feel junk for a week or two, then you think you're getting better, and then all of a sudden - WHAM! You're waay worse.

I'm starting to crawl out of the way worse part. I hope.

Heheh - I wrote my comment above without reading yours. We both sound alike! Even the word "wham". Obviously we both have the same bug. And I'm in way Northern CA. Mountains.

I've had it, too. I thought I was better a week and a half ago but was wrong.

Actually it's kind of nice to hear other people had the same experience with it as I did - I thought at first I was catching something else!

I've been sick for at least two weeks and the last two days I can barely drag the carcasse around. Lungs feel like crap, any effort is exhausting, and the continual hacking is tiresome. A lot of different symptoms, they seem to come and go. Draining sinuses for a couple of nights.

More or less maintaining my usual good cheer, though! Right now I should go join the other half of little jeremiah in bed, but I'm too tired to brush teeth and climb stairs. :-\

Just went to Dr. yesterday. Being treated for chronic sinus...am on antibiotics. Feel like my head is gonna explode. Throat tender from drainage and nose stuffy was up half the night. Feel like the devil. Hope today is better if not...I'll just hang out with my Freeper buddies...that's gotta help me through the day for sure. :)

More like a bad cold that goes away and then comes back a few days later. I have it right now and a bunch of people where I work are sick like that, too.

and there he is STANDING. We saw a show about him and he ALWAYS STANDS when he's working in his office. See him standing there now? What a guy he is. They tried and tried to bring him down but they didn't know who they were dealing with. This man loves his country and the shameless people who tried to make him look bad are so pathetic I can't even imagine sitting across the table from them and having to look at their ugly, venom filled faces. Rumsfeld is a good and decent man and I thank God for him. Hope he gets better soon.
