Just curious - what do you do about educating your kids when they are high school age?
(I've noticed private high schools are few and far between and usually very expensive and I would guess that most parents aren't able to homeschool all of the advanced high school subjects., ie., I could homeschool physics, chemistry, and calculus - but never English composition or literature! So, options are limited for the upper grades until we get public education fixed. And our economy will go under if it is not fixed, so we can't just ignore it. But I digress.....)
Unfortunately that's how I learned about Safe Sex day at school. My then five year old daughter came home from kindergarten and asked me what a homosexual was and what a condom was. Apparently they didn't do a good enough job explaining it the to five year olds. I was as mad as a wet hen; when I complained to the school the next day they told me I was the one being ugly! How does one explain perverted sex to a five year old?
In some instances, schools sent home slips of paper that detailed what the agenda would be and parents objected and withdrew their kids that day.
Other schools did not give any advance notice and only found out about it when the kids came home and told them.
Heather Has Two Mommies is a book that's been read by kids in schools since the 80's and it's getting MUCH worse. These kids are vulnerable and the radical gays know it...but somehow they've gotten the power to press their agenda.
You don't want to know.
Hence, I have nothing but one word for those who use government schools: FLEE.
I have successfully home schooled two kids through high school and I have only a high school diploma. I'm getting ready to start kid #3 this fall. It's a lot of fun!
My oldest took the ACT and got a very respectable 32. The second oldest went into the military so didn't take any placement tests.
A lot of homeschool curricula are geared towards independent learning and minimal teacher instruction. If you are even passable at a lot of subjects, taking a high-schooler through homeschooling is not difficult.
In Pennsylvania, where I live, there are several excellent cyber schools which are funded by the state and use good curriculum like Clavert, Saxon, K12, etc. You are homeschooling but they are also technically enrolled in a public charter school (the state gets the federal money, you get free computer, materials and access to teachers, and school gets to operate). THis can be an alternative to public school. Check and see what charter/cyber schools your state offers
Private schools are expensive but so is the loss of your child's soul. Where there is a will, there is a way, THERE REALLY IS!!!!!
I agree, I've been home schooling for 16 years. The incident of the Safe Sex day was the straw that broke the camels back. I couldn't argue with the Lord much after that. We've had a great time, I wouldn't do it any other way and both of my older kids are planning to home school their kids when the time comes. Actually they are already teaching their kids; they just don't realize it yet!

Liberals get public propaganda funding through NPR, PBS and the NEA. They have NO RIGHT to propagandize to our children through public schools.
I always thought it was the school's job to teach kids academics and the parents job to teach morality, among other things.
The cyber school you describe sounds ideal. I guess the libs allow it because the state does get the money and that's all they care about. And kids get a good - and parent-controlled - education!
I'll look into it here in CA. So far, I'm leaning towards the public high school here because we're in a conservative town and moved to the expensive side of town just because of the good schools. Middle school has been ok - no overt liberal influences as yet. And as a substitute teacher in the high school, I will be infiltrating and finding out who the liberal teachers are and what they are up to - and keeping my son away from them, I hope. But I'll keep the cyber/charter school idea in mind, as Plan B. Thanks!

It is a sad state of affairs to be second guessing the "education" system.
Fortunately, the staff - from principal on down - are good people, IMHO. The wife and I are involved enough that they know us on a first name basis.
There have not been any "surprises" so far. I don't think they go for a lot of the crap I see or hear other schools doing.
Still....Dad will be late to work next Monday...stopping by the school for a chat.

There's an interesting vanity here: High School Equivalency Exam... There's a growing number of folks who think high school is a waste of time... While I don't know if we'll skip high school, by the time our children go through 8th grade, they'll have a better education than those who graduate from today's public high schools.
Because leftist societal engineers absolutely hate 'traditional values'; they have defined traditional values as not politically correct. It is no mystery why democrats defended their degenerate president clintoon and now deify him and his 'sainted wife' for their resiliency!
Would that it was only a "waste" - but it's worse than that. It's toxic.....and this article is just another indication of same.
