SHOCKING DEVELOPMENT!!! Chuck Schumer -- "...vote them up or down"
3-2-05 | dfu

Posted on 03/02/2005 2:25:34 PM PST by doug from upland

I made three calls to Senator Chuck Schumer's press aide. It has been two weeks. The calls have not been returned. They haven't been returned because they have been caught.

Schumer is one of the leaders in the effort to filibuster and stop so-called "right wing" judges.

I hope that a Republican will make known for all the world to see the words of Schumer when the shoe was in his other mouth.

The date was March 7, 2000 as Clinton judicial nominees Richard A. Paez and Marsh L. Berzon were being debated.

Mr. Schumer: I also plead with my colleagues to move judges with alacrity -- vote them up or down.

Republicans, don't let him forget these words. Make him eat these words.

Senator Schumer, we agree with you on this. Vote them up or down indeed.

I suspect any reply would consist of a dressed up Theresa Kerry blurb: "Shove it!"

I am still waiting to get a callback from that moron NY Republican Congressman who said he's going to introduce legislation to raise the national minimum wage to $7.15 an hour.

I left a message with his Legislative Assistant yesterday, no word from him today.

I will add this idiot of people to call back and harass this week!

regards from Rochester

Thanks for making the calls, but I've lost hope that the Republicans will fight the obstructionist dems. Frist is a wimp.

Yeah, but Chuckie Schmuckie is a lying scumbag, so his words of yesterday shouldn't but used against him today. He was either lying then or he's lying now. These guys will do/say anything to try to regain power. Chuckie knows that his greatest weapon is that Frist has no cajones at all. Frist is terrified of Fat Teddy and the Senate dems can walk all over him.

And, if we make Chuckie feel the least bit uncomfortable about his past lies, he will make Frist and Sphincter do something nasty to one or more of W's nominees. The guys on our side are worse that the Chuckie Schmuckies of the Judiciary Committee!

Your title is certainly misleading. The "shocking development" is the same one we've been hearing about and rubbing Schumer's nose in for the past couple of years.

Well .. don't give up and be a wimp with them .. get on the email trail or phone trail and let them have it. They wanted more senators - we gave them 3 more - and they're still saying they can't get it done ..?? Let them have it instead of sitting here whining about them.

Hmmmmmm. I thought Schumer was for an up or down vote. I guess things changed when the president changed.

(from Thomas Sowell, Oct. 2003)

[www.CapMag.com] Senator Charles Schumer went on television on October 22nd to announce that he was prepared to urge his fellow Democrats to filibuster, in order to prevent a Senate vote on the nomination of California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown to become a federal judge on the Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington.

In other words, Senator Schumer is prepared to deny other Senators the right to vote yes or no on Justice Brown. He has turned the Senate's Constitutional duty to "advise and consent" on judicial nominees into the Senate minority's ability to delay and obstruct.

Sorry, I meant it to be ironic, not misleading. I was mocking him.

And what did the GOP do about his request?

If they gave him a digital salute, then we know why the Dems are continuing their filibusters.

I just left a message with Bethany in Schumer's press office. She said someone will call me back. Right. I asked how the senator currently stands on cloture relative to the renominations of the president. Let's hope I can get this question in about the quote.

Paez and Berzon got their up or down vote and both were confirmed.
