Patrick Henry is the perfect name for a patriotic, God fearing school.....
Mr Farris, a constitutional lawyer and political activist, established the college with a very clear aim: "To prepare Christian men and women who will lead our nation and shape our culture with timeless Biblical values and fidelity to the spirit of the American founding."
Following the Revolution, Patrick Henry supported proposals in the Virginia legislature that would have established the Episcopal church as the state religion. The proposed measures would have "incorporated" the Episcopal clergy, and would have provided financial support to the church through tax levies.
Is that where Mr Farris is heading with this?

To me an important aspect of Henry's trying to establish the Episcopal Church was that he viewed it as a state's rights issue. I guess I tend to support the COnstitution more than Henry did, but I admire his strong concern for the autonomy of the states -- and his sense of religious principle.
I don't have to agree with him in every particular to find some of what he contributed to be of very great value.
Of course, I live in central Virginia right next to "the Glebe" - the portion of land set aside to provide support for the rector of Saint Anne's Parish - which failed when the church was disestablished, but was revived later and survives to this day, perverse doctrine and all ...
