Speaking of gangs, can anybody explain this experience? I've had this happen to me twice in the past 6 months, once in NY City and once in Philly.

While walking in parts of town I probably shouldn't have been walking I've had Latino youth start counting in Spanish upon seeing me approach. They get uncomfortably close to me but don't touch me.

I never changed my stride but walked past them. I wonder if this means anything since the two incidents were so similar?

I am no expert, but these gangs have "codes" and all sorts of messages, so I wouldn't be surprised. There is another article up today about how very young kids, 10 years old are recruited.
