While I agree with a lot that Michelle is saying here, she misses a point about the initiative the First Lady is undertaking. She is going to concentrate on boys in the schools and how they are left behind in terms of their reading ability, etc. That does NOT take law enforcement.

" she misses a point about the initiative the First Lady"
Did you see the point she is trying to make about the infiltration of these gangs everywhere? The point is, school boys are not the problem these gangs are and NO ONE is paying attention in the white house.

I agree, this articles sets up to much of a either or scenario. These two initiatives are focusing on different segments. I respect the work Laura Bush is doing and I don't think it was ever intended to be the sole measure against gang violence.
That being said I agree with Michelle here, immigration laws are the single great enabler of gang violence today. We need to toughen them, and enforce them properly.

Seems like it will be as effective as "Just say NO" You would have to remove them from the home environment to do any good at all

President Bush addressed "Americas Immigration System" in one paragraph during his State of the Union Address while revamping Social Security received a whopping 10 paragraphs.
I agree Social Security should be taken care of, but there is no Social Security without HOMELAND SECURITY. Illegals are treated with kid gloves and our tax dollars go to support poor, legal immigrants, Our prisons are full of illegals and green-card holders who have committed violent crimes.
Since I am speaking to the choir, let me get to the point. I wrote the RNC the other day, so have a few of my friends. What did we say?
NO MORE MONEY (ie Donations to the RNC or any candidate)for anything until the immigration system is taken care of to OUR SATISFACTION. We voted them in, supported them with our dollars. . .for a REASON, if they cant do what we pay them to do..the pocket books should close down.
Let Bush give me 10 paragraphs on that!

Amen. Dont ya hate it when people seem to shoot down someones desire to help fix something without first giving it a chance? I think Laura Bush is only saying that for years now boys have been left behind and now she's trying to change that in the schools and hopefully the future of the boys will be better. I wish her luck and pray for her success so that the boys will think better of themselves and strive for better things for themselves.
