Carly Fiorina, World Bank president?
That's the buzz in the business world after a published report said the ousted chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard may be on the short list of possible candidates for the prestigious post.
The World Bank, which is based in Washington, is a major international organization that provides loans and other forms of financial assistance to developing nations.
Fiorina, who was one of the most prominent executives in the world before she was suddenly fired by the HP board, is reportedly being considered as a nominee by the Bush administration, according to the New York Times and the Associated Press.
The other leading candidate to replace James Wolfensohn, whose term ends in May, is Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz.
World Bank spokesman David Theis said the agency does not comment on speculation.
"When it comes to the succession process, it's up to our shareholders," he said.
The World Bank has 184 member countries who act as shareholders of the agency. By tradition, the United States, which is the World Bank's largest shareholder, nominates the organization's president.

Just when you thought the Peter Principle had topped out for her at HP...
She can't run Hewlett Packard, one of the world's largest computer companies, right and now they want to make her head of the World Bank? What is wrong with people.
Perfect. Incompetent CEO moved to position where she can do more damage.
This could be good for California but not so sure about the world.
Maybe she can do for the World Bank what she did for HP. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Fiorina is incompetant. No one who demonstrates an aptitude for failure should be promoted.
"If she has aspirations to go into politics, this would be a way to recover from the HP thing," said Enderle. "It could be a powerful intermediate step to politics."
As HP CEO, Fiorina was known for maintaining a high profile, including meeting with world leaders such as Nelson Mandela.
The thought of her taking her "business acumen" into the government should scare the heck out of folks.
Not the "world". Just the "World Bank" which is a horse of an entirely different hue.
I'd love for somebody to run the World Bank into the ground.
Well...do keep in mind a former World Bank President...Robert F. McNamara (after his Vietnam tour-de-force). Maybe it's a tradition!

Sure, why not give her a shot at the World Bank?
The fact that you would even consider Carly Fiorina (late of Lucent and HP) as your President says volumes about your business intelligence.Why not let me be the president? At least I haven't proven my incompetence by screwing up two major US corporations.
Has she slept with that many leaders?
Is there any conceivable reason the Bush administration would actually choose her for this position, or is this just a plant in the media by some of her pals to make her seem like a major player? Seems like the latter to me....
