O'REILLY: So it was a surrogate father attached to a young woman who is striving. So to you, it was a more relationship film. That was a primary focus of the film.
EASTWOOD: Exactly.
O'REILLY: And then it gets blown up into an issue film, the euthanasia. Did that surprise you?
EASTWOOD: Well, I don't it could be blown up, but I didn't see what the blow-up is. It's it wasn't that it isn't a message for anything. But nowadays in the old days, it was everybody was talking about the knee- jerk liberals. Now we have sort of the knee-jerk conservative group that has tries to politicize everything. But it wasn't a political film. It's merely a relationship film, adventure. It doesn't make a statement for or against anything. It just happens to be the way the story comes out.
O'REILLY: Well, you also did it fair and balanced. I mean, you had the priest in a key part of the film, advising against this in a very, very articulate way. That's what I said, look, he presented both sides of it. And that's all you can do for the audience. You weren't trying to brainwash anybody in my estimation.
EASTWOOD: No, actually, the priest is right. When he says it, he says to him, he says, you do this thing, you'll be lost somewhere deep within, inside you forever. And he's absolutely right.

Did you see it?
Be my guest! At least you'll have a basis to criticize it.
I was reluctant to see this film because I have no interest in boxing and even less interest, if that's possible, in female boxing. But I went to see it anyway and was very surpised.
This movie isn't a "boxing" movie. It's a great movie, and the three main actors are great in it. Eastwood's best movie by far, in my opinion.
What's the title? Did it include that woman that looks like a man?
More interesting is who is doing the magnifying. I get tired of the MSM deciding what the 'conservative' position is. Including O'Reilly.
Paul Haggis was the screenwriter for this movie. He wrote the dialog, Eastwood directed.
Research is a marvelous thing.

thanks for the research. Paul Haggis is an a**hole for writing that insult into the dialogue of a priest, and Clint Eastwood is an a**hole for directing a character playing a priest to level such an insult against thousands of good faithful Catholics.
by the way, you missed an golden opportunity to correct my misspelling of the word caraciture, or does your research library not include a dictionary?
it must be million dollar baby? didn't see it.
LOL.
I did the spelling cop thing a few weeks back, and failed to research my correction (for the record: I spelled vilified with 2 l's) and ended up looking like an a$$hole.
Will the names you're calling Haggis and Eastwood come up during your next confession?
Aren't they all gay?
And right now they're at the bath house with Sponge Bob.
Clint: ..."in the old days, it was everybody was talking about the knee- jerk liberals. Now we have sort of the knee-jerk conservative group that has tries to politicize everything."
Thanks Clint. Somebody had to say it.
Thanks for the ping, Ambrose.
I adore Clint Eastwood and his films.
Haven't seen this one yet,
but good movies are supposed to make us think, IMO.
I do intend to see Million Dollar Baby.
As an aside, a young HA friend of mine,
told me the day after he saw it, that it'd
get best picture. He said it was a must see.
Couple his opinion with a similar opinion
from an elderly religious neighbor, and I thought,
"yep, this has the makings of best pic."
HAPPY for Clint.
"I was reluctant to see this film because I have no interest in boxing and even less interest, if that's possible, in female boxing."
I felt exactly the same, but Clint is such a great filmmaker I had to go. I wasn't disappointed, a little depressed but not disappointed.
Non per un pugno di dollari, Signore!!!!
My point here is, I think that many on the right, where I squarely reside, are making an issue out of something that isn't there. Mr. Eastwood was clear about his intent with the picture. We need to choose our battles more wisely. That's my opinion. Flame away if you like, FReepers. Cite scripture and all the rest. But I don't think this film is evil or even wrong. Simply a story about flawed human beings. And, it is a terrificly done film.

I couldn't have said it any better!
How would you like to have to hide out in Theodosia, Missouri for the rest of your life!
