I just wish they would come up with an age where US citizens are legal adults. 18 is old enough to sign a contract or get married to join military. 16 is old enought to drive. But you have to be 21 to buy a beer. I wish they would choose one age, say 19 or 20, and that is the age when everyone becomes a legal adult.

Actually, I think through trial and error, we have come out about right. There is some recent research that the maturation process is not across all areas evenly, but some areas precede others.

So, the long and short of it is that driving is one thing and drinking booze is quite another. That additional five years is quite important.

I got my Texas drivers license at 14. You needed to pass drivers training, pass the drivers test and have a parent or guardian sign papers.

I joined the Army 3 days after I turned 17 and after serving 3 years in the army, I still could not vote until I turned 21.

If anyone had called me a child, they would have regretted it.
