Doesn't pass the smell test. More likely he destroyed it rather than have stuff turn up in a forensic analysis of its contents.

Stolen? Or thrown into a river to hide the evidence on it.

According to San Francisco police, Shelley called authorities Sunday morning after discovering someone had apparently entered his Everson Street home during the night though an open window. Shelley told police he had left the window open, but noticed the opening had been widened when he woke up in the morning. How many ways can you spell STUPID?
Or even better.........
In cahoots.

If it was stolen, it may have been the FBI.

Shelley also told police that he may have wiped-off a smudge from the windowsill that could have been helpful in the investigation. Police have collected some other evidence but would not elaborate on the nature of it. The stolen PDA is programmed to access sensitive state-run websites. State officials have since disabled those connections for security reasons. Yeah sure.......
Sold it, or lost it.
My money is on sold it.

The weather in San Francisco on Sunday February 20th was high of 60 and low of 52 with .06 inch of rain.
NOT the typical weather for having your window open.
This story stinks to high heaven.Kind of similar to "I just happened to find these billing records in my office after looking for them for years"
