Crime Fighting Dog Gets Feline Partner
Techno Cat Reminds Children To Stay Safe Online
POSTED: 3:01 pm PST February 28, 2005 UPDATED: 3:30 pm PST February 28, 2005
A new safety campaign hit the Internet Monday with a goal of protecting children from online predators.
"Faux Paw The Techno Cat," like "McGruff The Crime Dog," was created to remind children to stay safe when meeting strangers, but the cat will focus on the Internet.
The campaign comes after a recent university study found that one in five children are sexually solicited online.
"Millions of parents out there have a false sense of security. They think they're at home; they're in their room; they're safe," said National Center for Missing and Exploited Children spokesman Ernie Allen.
The I Keep Safe Coalition Web site urges children to keep their information to themselves, to not meet with strangers in person that they've met online; and to tell an adult if they feel uncomfortable about anything on their computers.
A Mismatch.. but happy. ;-)
