I always thought that when there is doubt in a case of life or death you come down on the side of life.In Terri's case the judge has taken her husbands word as the only truth and dismissed any evidence that called that truth into question.Maybe if the case wasn't so bias towards one outcome people wouldn't be so suspicious.
