A Catholic annulment has no bearing on a civil divorce.

Cannot the Catholic Church dissolve Terri's marriage to Michael? Would that then be recognized by the civil courts?Maybe this is a stupid question, but putting it out there anyway.

Not without a civil divorce.

Would that then be recognized by the civil courts?

Not likely, even if it were possible.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but putting it out there anyway.

It's not a stupid question, since there is a great deal of confusion about Catholic annulments.
