Well ... here's the other shoe dropping ...

I just came back from doing some cleaning to find this in my email. This is a response to an email I sent to my senators last week:

____________

From Senator Feinstein's office:

Thank you for contacting my office to share your concerns regarding the case of Terri Schiavo. I appreciate your letter on this important issue and welcome the opportunity to respond.

I understand your concerns and your desire to have Terri Schiavo=s case resolved. Florida courts have repeatedly affirmed Michael Schiavo's legal right to remove his wife's feeding tube. The Florida State Supreme Court has twice refused to hear the case; the U.S. Supreme Court also refused to hear it. Governor Jeb Bush intervened in this case and asked the Florida legislature to pass "Terri's Law," which gave Governor Bush the authority to order Terri Schiavo=s feeding tube reinserted. In a court filing, lawyers for Michael Schiavo have contended that the law violates the state=s constitution, infringing on Terri Schiavo's right to privacy and the constitution=s separation of power provisions. This lawsuit is pending. However, please know that I will continue to monitor this case.

As a United States Senator, I cannot intervene in a matter that is within the jurisdiction of the courts. This policy is to preserve the constitutionally required separation of powers among the three branches of government and to protect the integrity of our system of justice.

Once again, thank you for your letter. I hope you will continue to write on issues of importance to you. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator
