It's the day before the Feast of St. Joseph, which is especially celebrated by Italians, as the Irish celebrate St. Patrick's Day (March 17th). St. Joseph is the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, foster father of Jesus Christ, and Patron of the Universal Church.

He is known by other titles and "specialties," such as Patron of Workers (which has its own feast day, May 1st), and as Patron of husbands and fathers.

Traditionally, since Jesus Himself was present at his deathbed, St. Joseph's help is also invoked as Patron of the Dying.
