I just checked and learned that Cardoza is the Modesto Democrat successor to former Rep. Gary Condit, also D-CA.

Of course, Dennis Cardoza is from CA. Where else? He issued an official statement opposing HR 1151 saying it's a family matter. Sheeeeeeesh already!
Okay, so the Congress is not going to act. It's coming down to just us, isn't it?

What I meant is that Terri's execution is "special" and a "civil matter" in Pinellas Park, FL.
I wonder what Michael and Jodi will be wearing for Friday afternoon. After all, this is all about THEM? Will MRS show off his "Terri jewelry."

Good luck! Dennis Cardoza, Democrat from CA. His district ofc number - and they're still open - is 209-383-4455. Give 'em hell - PLEASE?! Thank you.

Do you think this decorated gentleman must sometimes wonder if his war efforts were all ultimately in vain, with FL and the USA apparently on the very verge of adopting Hitler's view of euthanasia?

I did not realize that the gentleman is not old enough to have been in WW2. He looks like he was one of the younger Vietnam era veterans, and he was betrayed by his government there too.

Scott Peterson was given the death sentence for killing his wife today. He didn't go about it the right way, did he? He should have taken a few pointers from Michael </sarcasm>
I totally agree with your sarcasm!! Michael takes the cake, in my opinion.
MICHAEL has been ALLOWED TO TORTURE HIS WIFE BY VARIOUS MEANS for approx 12 years, and then the COURT ORDERS HIS WIFE'S MURDER by EXECUTION on March 18, 2005 at 1:00PM.
Something is very WRONG with this picture. Scott Peterson got Jail and the Death Penalty. Michael got the RIGHT TO KILL HIS WIFE, and immediately Cremate her.

Blake is found not guilty on the day the judge affirms death for Scott Peterson and a "fence-like gallows are being built for poor Terri. Sometimes there is not a lot of justice to go around, is it?

Kate Adamson was on the O'Reilly show awhile back, and said that starving for a week was sheer torture.
I'm so glad that she and her husband are in Terri's corner.

Right, Peterson thought he was hot stuff and better looking than Schiavo, but MRS proved the smarter villain in the end.

This is wonderful news. Is there a separate thread on this? Bet a lot of our military freepers would love to read about about this.

March 19, 2005 update on Terri Schiavo story
Nutrition and hydration bill closer to passage
By Jacquelyn Horkan, Tallahassee
'If we ... err in public policy, let us err on the side of life.'
Rep. Dennis Baxley
R-Ocala
With a March 18 deadline looming, CS/CS/HB 701, sponsored by Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, cleared its latest hurdle on Tuesday, March 15, when it passed the Health and Family Council of the Florida House of Representatives by an eight to three vote. The bill will now move to the House floor where sponsors hope to turn it over to the Senate quickly as a prelude to sending it to the governor for his signature by Friday, March 18.
The Baxley bill, which prohibits the withholding of life-prolonging nutrition and hydration from patients in a persistent vegetative state, was inspired by the case of Terri Schiavo, whose feeding tube could be withdrawn as early as March 18. If she is still alive when the bill becomes law, it will override the court order allowing the withdrawal of artificial nutrition and hydration.
CS/SB 804, sponsored by Sen. Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden, was also approved on Tuesday by a six to two vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee after it underwent a massive overhaul. Senate and House sponsors are in negotiations to work out the differences between the two bills and smooth the way toward rapid passage. The ultimate outcome of the bill remains in doubt with the intentions of a few key senators still unknown.
Under the "Starvation and Dehydration of Incompetent Persons Prevention Act," the prohibition would not apply to a person who executed a document, such as a living will, that authorizes the withdrawal or withholding of life-prolonging procedures. In the absence of a written document, nutrition and hydration could be removed if clear and convincing evidence existed that doing so corresponded to the wishes expressed by the patient prior to entering a persistent vegetative state. The bill also specifies that certain medical cases, such as imminence of death, could be grounds for withdrawing nutrition and hydration.
Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman who is the centerpiece of an ongoing legal and legislative drama, has been in what her doctors describe as a persistent vegetative state since she emerged from a coma after suffering cardiac arrest and a severe loss of oxygen to her brain in February 1990. Florida statutes define persistent vegetative state as a permanent and irreversible condition of unconsciousness in which there is an absence of voluntary action or cognitive behavior, and an inability to communicate or interact purposefully with the environment. Her husband believes that she would not want to live on in her condition, her parents disagree. In 2000, following a week-long trial Pinellas County Circuit Court Judge George W. Greer ruled that clear and convincing evidence showed that Terri would chose not to receive life-sustaining medical care under her current circumstances.
The AMA's Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs defines life-sustaining treatment as any treatment that serves to prolong life without reversing the underlying medical condition. Life-sustaining treatment may include, but is not limited to, mechanical ventilation, renal dialysis, chemotherapy, antibiotics, and artificial nutrition and hydration.
HB 701 sequesters the latter from other forms of life-prolonging treatment, as does Catholic teaching. The "Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services," promulgated by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, creates a presumption in favor of continued artificial nutrition and hydration for the helpless, "as long as this is of sufficient benefit to outweigh the burdens involved to the patient."
Opponents of the bill fear that it will take decisions over the care of loved ones out of the hands of family members. Baxley acknowledged those misgivings while urging committee members, "If we are going to err in public policy, let us err on the side of life."

"Kate Adamson spoke before several House committees in Tallahassee on Monday. She was awesome!"
Having been in Terri's position herself, she must be very effective. She was fortunate to have a husband that stuck by her.

Kay Adamson's husband put a big sign over her bed for the medical staff saying, "This is a human being. Treat her like one."
