200 teachers sign ad asking that Churchill inquiry be dropped

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -A full-page ad taken out by 200 University of Colorado faculty members calls for the school to drop inquiry into the writings of professor Ward Churchill.

Gov. Bill Owens and others have called for the firing of Churchill, a tenured professor, because of his comparison of Sept. 11 victims to Nazis.

The faculty members paid for the ad to run Monday in The Boulder Daily Camera.

It says the review of the professor, expected to complete by the middle of March, should be stopped immediately. The ad says the inquiry is the result of political pressure and not based on "any prior formal complaint of specific professional or academic misconduct on his part."

The 200 faculty members' statement defends Churchill's "right to speak what he believes to be the truth" based on academic freedom rules designed to prevent faculty members from being fired for unpopular views.

In the essay, written immediately after the Sept. attacks, Churchill appeared to sympathize with the hijackers. He wrote that some victims were not innocent because of their role in driving U.S. foreign policy.

Under pressure from Owens, the Legislature, and the Board of Regents, the university began an investigation of Churchill.

CU's Arts & Sciences Council passed a resolution Feb. 10 protesting the investigation, and said administrators should know that faculty members are serious about their opposition to what some consider a witch hunt.

Margaret LeCompte, an education professor, said, "It is going to be extremely difficult, if academic freedom is on the block, for us to hire and keep good faculty members.'

LeCompte and the other teachers who signed the ad paid $1,600 to have it published.

"We're all thinking twice about what we're saying," LeCompte said, recalling the climate in the McCarthy era when professors were fired for alleged communist ties.

Oh my gosh; they've just taken his robe of illegitimacy, and wrapped it around themselves. Two hundred out of how many? Sounds as if the whole institution should be closed, and reopened under new management.

My view exactly. Fire these 200 for not being smart enough to teach.

Does the ad contain the words "There but for the grace of God goes I?" Maybe the credentials of those 200 need further scrutiny.

200 University of Colorado faculty members may have had a part in the 9/11/2001 attacks that killed 2800 people from all nationalities. They may have supplied the Saudi Arabian Islamic hijackers with information in reguards to flight times and destinations...I believe this maybe the truth...

Maybe CU has problems with hiring and keeping good faculty members because they have made themselves into a running joke. Between hiring prostitutes for athletic recruitment, allowing the football team to rape whomever they please, and keeping a known racist hatemonger on the payroll, CU has pretty much ruined whatever reputation it might have had.

If these were police they would call it the "blue silence".

I'm OK with dropping the inquiry against Wardie (with the exception of the faked personal claims and academic credentials) providing states institute comprehensive protections for students who have conflicting opinions. Too many of these lefty profs feel its acceptable punish students who fail to accept their political philosophy no matter how warped as in the case of Wardie.

Therefore, they endorse his comments.

Anyone who attends the University of Colorado is insane.

If you attend the University of Colorado and come before me in a job interview, you can be assured you will not get the job.

So I teach there. I believe that all women should be placed in chains and impregnated by the state so their children can be conscripted to forced labor. I believe that rape is nothing more than a man's right to do as he pleases. I believe all people should commit treason against this country. That indiscriminate killing of people is my right.

According to these peckerheads I should be able to spout this drool as long as I "believe it to be the truth!" Very sick!

These "teachers" are the direct cause of so many college kids being unable to get jobs. They are a sick joke and would not survive one minute in the real world.

I just heard this woman, Le Compte, speak on Peter Boyle's show on KHOW.

She wouldn't distance herself from a single position that Churchill has taken. She hedged, fudged, and obfuscated. She was totally uninformed about his plagiarism, copyright infringement, etc.

What is it about FRAUD that these morons don't understand.

And to think that this is my alma mater!!

Pathetic.

The faculty of the University of Colorado has regular pedophillic sex parties. I believe this to be the truth.

The 200 faculty members' statement defends Churchill's "right to speak what he believes to be the truth"

Unless that truth includes statements such as:

1. Homosexuality is a sin.

2. Partial-birth abortion is an abomination.

3. Shakespeare's writing really is better than the illiterate rantings that serve as literature on today's campuses.
