Porn isn't free speech. Neither is terrorism - which is the destruction of property and the murder of innocents for political ends. I don't really see where the Second Amendment comes in here. In any case, obscenity and treason are acts not covered by the First Amendment. I'd like to see a liberal argue that they are.

Deep Throat should rate some space in the Clinton Library. Maybe Bill could donate one of his well used VHS tapes.

AIDS, overdoses, and suicides are to be expected in that industry. I noticed that there were a lot of car accidents listed as a cause of death.

Borda said there was a side of Savannah which the public wasn't privy to.

"She was Shannon in freckles and a ponytail, and then she was Savannah," noted Borda. Savannah apparently donated vast amounts of money to charities, particularly, The Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and was a noted soft touch among her friends.

"She was always paying her friends's rent, buying them clothes and picking up restaurant tabs," said Borda. "It seemed like this was expected of her."

The obituary goes on to say that she blew her brains out over a possible broken nose. I heard a different story. She and Slash, the guitarist for Guns N Roses, were an item. When he ditched her, she became despondent and wrecked her car. The car wreck messed her face up, and she killed herself over the whole thing.

I'm certainly not fond of the porno industry. I know from personal experience just how destructive it is, but let's keep in mind that not all of these people are rotten. In fact, Ron Jeremy cracks me up. I saw him at an Ozzfest several years ago, and he was introducing the bands on the second stage.

Linda Lovelace was before my time. I do recall interviews with her, though. She was a very troubled person who was taken advantage of.

Like giving a steak sub with all the toppings to a fat man with no will power on a diet, Hollywood preys on our weaknesses. If we do not buy it, they're out of business. We are to blame for some of the things we complain about. Porn is a HUGE industry in America only because someone is buying it. Outlawing it will not help, only drive it underground. The answer is not clear to me. Prostitution is also an industry in high demand, it is underground but it doesn't stop it, only makes it more dangerous. Until we relinquish our desire for these items it will always flourish one way or another. I do not care for either.

There will always be a high demand for sex. If there wasn't the human race wouldn't continue. And its a lubricant in more than a strictly personal sense of the term.

True, it is primal.

But does “Inside ‘Deep Throat’” ask, Gee, why are all of the people associated with this film, broke, depressed, dead, or all three (except the one who found religion)?

I don't know about demand, but there certainly is a lot of begging.

While I disagree with Schlussel's view that DT was THE cultural event of the 20th century, I will observe that DT seemed to "open the floodgates" of porn that would come shortly thereafter. It's a cliche, but porn has "gone mainstream" in today's culture: Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch, SI's Swimsuit Issue. If DT had not been released, I wonder whether we'd have as much smut as we do today.

Once oral sex was a term you didn't mention in polite company or on a forum like this. DT and the Clintons changed it all. And certainly not for the better.

You know, Schlussel had me from the beginning. But then she made two critical errors:

1) She referred to Reems by his real name and as a born-again Christian. Wrong on both counts. In a recent article in the New York Daily News, Reems stated that he kept that name because he was not going to hide from who he was. He also stated he was a Methodist, not a Christian.

2) Schlussel basically called Linda Lovelace a liar. If she was such a liar, why didn't she spend the rest of her life singing the praises of her past, as other porn stars have done? No, she wrote two books on the subject (Ordeal and Out of Bondage) and testified in front of the Meese Commission. Lovelace was not proud by any means. She attacked the industry every chance she got, and the only reason she is no longer is because she is dead.

And who cares if Lovelace's daughter was allegedly offered the lead in Deep Throat 7? She did not do it, did she? That's what matters.

I think we conservatives around the world should band together and think about how we are going to address the entertainment industry just as effectively as we addressed the news media. Let's be honest, technical barriers to home high quality production are falling all the time: we have more and better cheap digital equipment than ever before.

It's time to find a way to set all this free - have ambitious conservative filmmakers make their wares and broadcast them on the web.

Regards, Ivan

"You may disagree with that form of expression, but that is why the first amendment exists: to protect the freedom of people to express what not everyone wants to hear. "

No it isn't. The first amendment exists in order to protect us from Congress clamping down on our political expression. Of course nowadays, political speech is being clamped down on by Congress in pursuit of "democracy" through "campaign finance reform" and porn is protected.

A more accurate post would have read: "Though you may disagree with my political expression, especially in the head of an election in which I pay good money to hammer incumbents, that is precisely what the first amendment protects."

I also note that with the subsequent interpretations of teh 14th A., we have applied teh 1st to the states and thus lost the liberty enhancing scheme of federalism. A sad day for liberty.

There was plenty of sex and plenty of procreation before porn.

And if you do a blue state/red state map together with a crime map and a porn consumption map and an abortion map, you will find, not surprisingly, that Democrat areas lead the nation in crime, porn consumption, abortion and low birth rates. Yet they claim to be having all the sex....i find that hard to believe. Two or three drug induced one nighters a year plus a lot of...porn viewing...does not constitute a fulfilling sex life. I think even sicko Democrats would agree with that.

Greed, perversion, cowardice, envy and stupidity = the Democrat base
