A major to possibly historic snowstorm is now forming in the Gulf of Mexico. This storm will track northeast along the East Coast Monday and Tuesday bringing very heavy snow and near blizzard conditions to many. The exact track is still uncertain at this time, but the big cities along the megalopolis could be in for a very large event. I put together a few maps to track the system, and will add more shortly.

Current East Coast NEXRAD Radar Composite National Radar Loop
National Radar Summary U.S. Surface Pressure Map and Radar Overlay NWS HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER CAMP SPRINGS MD 132 PM EST SUN FEB 27 2005 QPF DISCUSSION ...ERN STATES... WILL KEEP THIS SHORT AND SWEET. FOR THE MOST PART THE MANUAL DAY1 QPF OVR THE ERN U.S. STRONGLY REFLECTS THE GFS MODEL. THIS MODEL HAS GOOD CONTINUITY NOW FOR THE PAST FEW MODEL RUNS AS OPPOSED TO THE NAM WHICH HAS BEEN ERRATIC AND FOR THE MOST PART WRONG WITH ITS SCENARIO. THAT BEING SAID THE CURRENT GFS IN THE EARLY PART OF ITS 1200 UTC FCST CYCLE DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD HANDLE ON THE DEPTH OF THE GULF LO. TO WHAT EXTENT THIS WILL IMPACT ITS FCST IS UNCERTAIN. ITS FARTHER WEST SFC LO SOLUTION AS COMPARED TO THE UKMET AND THE ECMWF ALSO DOES NOT LEND SUPPORT TO A HIGHLY CONFIDENCE FCST. IN ANY CASE...USED THE GFS FOR THE TIMING OF THE PCPN ASOCTD WITH THIS SYSTEM WHICH HAS TRENDED SLOER FM PREVIOUS RUNS. THE ONLY CORRECTION MADE TO THE GFS...WHICH IS IMPORTANT FOR SNOW LOVERS...IS THE ADDITION TO ITS QPF ON THE NW SIDE OF ITS PCPN SHIELD. BELIEVE ITS CURRENT FCST DOES NOT STGLY REFLECT THE TRACK OF THE MID/UPPER LVL CNTR AS DEPICTED BY ITS OWN MASS FIELD FCSTS. LATEST STLT AND RADAR ALREADY INDCS THAT IT HAS MISSED THE PCPN DVLPNG OVR THE UPPER TN VLY TO THE NORTH OF THE MID LVL CIRC AND SUSPECT THIS COULD CONTINUE. PLEASE SEE LATEST WINTER WEATHER PRODUCTS FOR FURTHER INFO CONCERNING FROZEN PCPN.

Seven inches so far. Wet, and is weighing down trees. (It's six in morning now) Thanks for the update. There's two to three inches here, depending on the surface it's measured on. At 6:45 a.m. it is no longer snowing. Intellicast's regional radar summary doesn't seem to promise much more snow at this time.

I'll be here peeling potatoes.Me, too. But, I have some clams to add. Start with a drizzle of olive oil, throw in some minced onion, and carmelize. Then start throwing in the potatoes, add spices and water... then simmering, while I look out the window and thanking God for intervening. Finish with cream, salt and pepper to taste!
We still have nothing hitting the grounding in Martinsburg, but schools are closed. I've been putzing since 4, so that I could keep the drive from piling up. Oh well, I'd rather be bored. Thanks to Adelphia Cable for their DVR service. I just got through watching yesterday's Nascar race, again... Gotta go, the cat is screaming at the door. The dog is still in bed with mama, and our teen daughter is hidden under four blankets, in her 70 degree room, probably not to be seen until noonish!

I think they would take it as a sign that they aren't in Hell. This would confuse them.

It's 10:30am and snow has stopped; temp is now above freezing. Snow on ground and trees is heavy, wet stuff - easy to walk on .
How are the taters?
To: ncpatriot
How are the taters? I've been busy chasing that storm of historic proportions(where did it go?) and other things so I haven't made the potato soup. May wait until tomorrow for it is forecast to be a cold, blustery day.
Light snow continued here until noon, there was a short period with no precipitation, but now its is raining lightly.

I remember a few years ago, the forecasters said: "Just a couple of inches" - even when we had eight inches on the ground, they kept saying "It's going to stop. This is not a big storm". Well, it was a big storm.
This time, it was the opposite: the historic storm turned into a flop. Oh, well.
Now, it is spitting rain. The sun was out earlier.

As we saw in the post before yours, this storm center is just sitting off the coast. If it does head northeast, things could be bad, as nwctwx said.

Phooey! This snowstorm stinks. It doesn't have any snow. What good is a "historic" snowstorm without snow?
