The Senate killed legislation Thursday that would have limited workers' compensation benefits for illegal aliens injured on the job.
House Bill 2056 stated that illegal aliens prevented from working because of on-the-job injuries would still receive compensation for their medical expenses. But the bill would have banned the workers from receiving lost wages. The bill passed the House of Delegates on a 53-42 vote. But on the floor of the Senate, members questioned whether the state could legally separate workers' comp benefits. Several senators suggested the bill could harm families dependent on the undocumented workers' income or could punish workers caught in legal limbo because of delays in the federal immigration process.
The Senate voted on a voice vote to refer the measure to the chamber's Courts of Justice Committee. The move effectively kills the bill for the year because the deadline for committee action expired this week.

And the insanity continues..........
Again the supposed lawmakers vote to reward illegal aliens who also happen to be working illegally in America. What happened to deportation? What has happened to the rule of law in America? Washington has gone mad.
What happened to Form I-9 and sanctions against employers who knowingly hire illegals?
Unbelievable!
After reading this topsy-turvy article, I do not fail to be unimpressed by the refusal to vote down the limitations on the ban on legislation to curtail and ratify workmen's comp for illegals apparently working legally in Virginia. Everybody with me?
With ya probably but don't call a vote on it or there could be a voice referendum with no count taken and full benefits for all concerned (excluding American natives, of course).

Which of the following is the best way to solve the illegal immigration problem?
| Seal and militarize the borders | |
| 48.7% | |
| Beef up and enforce existing law | |
| 36.3% | |
| Some form of guest worker program | |
| 10.1% | |
| Other | |
| 3.0% | |
| Undecided/Pass | |
| 1.9% | |
Like any other law that is supposed to apply to illegal immigration, it is ignored, not enforced. Why should the employers care when they know the law won't be enforced, and the American taxpayers will pay the bills? It is an outrage that few in Washington have the courage to mention. President Bush is the head enabler of illegal immigration.
I think I disagree with you on this one, Happy:
If the employer has paid into workmens comp insurance for an illegal, then the injured employee, illegal or not, should get workmens compensation. In Oregon at least, we have more then one workmens compensation insurance company, or a company can self insure.
Having said that, I don't want you or anyone else to get the impression that I support the hiring of illegal aliens. It's just that if insurance was paid on them they should be able to be compensated for an injury through that was insured.
Otherwise, the injured will wind up being paid by welfare, and/or the hospital won't get paid for medical treatment.
Regards
It's a can of (taxpayer) worms any way you look at it.
whoops! I missed where article said medical treatent would still be paid under this bill...doh... :)
"Hey!Where's my welfare check? License? We ain't got no licenses. We don't need no licenses. I don't have to show you any stinking driver's licenses!"
Honestly, RINO's are more dangerous than dems. There is a difference between respecting your opponent and just plain, old-fashioned cancer.
I own a beatiful home in Malaysia, and I am getting very close to chucking it all here, and moving there for good. Last year, Malaysia gave the illegal Indonesians 90 days to hop a free boat, or go to prison. Out of a supposed 240,000 illegals, 180,000 took one of 32 boats. But America can't do that.....we are pussys!
time for a funeral
