You may also want to consider this:
"TODD: An aide to Alan Keyes tells CNN Maya worked for an Illinois political group run by Keyes and lived in a Chicago apartment paid for by that group. The aide says Maya and her father mutually agreed she should leave that group and therefore she's no longer eligible to live in the apartment. That was after Maya went to an anti-Bush protest during last month's inauguration."

Maya told the Washington Post Monday her parents kicked her out of the house and will not pay her college tuition. But a family friend has a very different take, saying Maya has been self-destructive and needs psychiatric help, not college. The friend says Maya has not been kicked out of the family home, but she is no longer welcomed to stay at the downtown Chicago apartment that Keyes and members of his new political organization use.

And:

Last week, Maya and her girlfriend, Bria Murray, spent an afternoon discussing the fallout from Maya's speech, their relationship, politics, Alan Keyes, and what it means to be a queer anarchist.

It sounds like the issue exploded when she started becoming an activist for nearly everything her father is opposed to--after she publicly aligned herself with anarchism and accepted a public speaking engagement promoting homosexuality.
MAYA MARCEL-KEYES: He cut off all financial support, but that's something that I can totally understand. I am working for things that he's directly opposed to. It doesn't make much sense for him to be [financially] supporting someone who is working against what he believes in.

MURRAY: We're both anarchists. We don't believe in any sort of governmental system.

Now, suppose Alan Keyes continued to financially support his daughter, have her continue working for his conservative organization, continue living at an apartment paid for by this organization, all the while she is openly involved in homosexual and anarchist politics. Even she agrees that “doesn’t make much sense.”

But the media has to report this in melodramatic fashion, as tabloid fodder for their agenda. They need a right-wing target to shoot down. That’s all.

I have no problem with his cutting off financial support. It was the article (which now we think is incorrect based on a transcript provided uplink) which stated he no longer talked with his daughter. I found that disgraceful.

He has known she's a lesbian for years and years. But only when she speaks out about it does he cut her off. So he hasn't cut her off because she's a lesbian. Much as the so-called Christians on this thread would like to believe. He's cut her off because of her tactics and outspokenness.
