Appears this guy is a real psycho-killer chameleon, mild mannered, church going city employee by day and a vicious serial killer by night. What is most peculiar is his sudden cessation of killing in 1984. That is atypical of serial killers unless they are sent to prison.
I was wondering about this. Could he have sublimated his urges by "controlling" and killing animals as part of his official duties? Just a thought.

Could he have sublimated his urges by "controlling" and killing animals as part of his official duties? This is VERY possible. But I think it would be more close to displacement, as sublimation is usually of a more positive nature and is a conscious mechanism.
On the other hand, displacement is more of an unconscious mechanism that goes on beneath the surface of our consciousness. Here's a good website to read:
