You may have been talking about a IIgs, but your statement implied Apple products still act the way they did almost twenty years ago, even though there have been multiple processor, technology and OS shifts since then. Then, when someone helpfully suggested you let go of that grudge, you re-iterated a twenty-year old grudge and then moved the goalposts by bringing in the "cost" defense.

I'd like to say this attitude is rare amongst computer users, but it's not. It's kind of sad, to see people who can be rational and reasonable and intelligent about any other subject, but bring up Apple - and boy does it get immature fast!

It's a COMPUTER. It's a tool. Do you go around making fun of and criticizing everyone who uses a different brand of hammer than you do?

I've used Apple computers since the Apple II, and yes, there were periods, like under Sculley and Schindler, where their products were so bad, I almost went 100% Windows. But, I stuck to my guns, kept using BOTH (for what each is good for), and now Apple sells the G5, the most stable, fast, easy to use and slick machine they've ever had. Mac OS X runs rings around Windows XP, IMHO, and I don't have to worry AT ALL about viruses, trojans, pop-ups, calling Apple everytime I want to reinstall the OS - it just works. Yes, there are small issues that pop up, but for the most part it works, and works damn well. I make a decent living using them, and right now, Macs running the G4 and G5 using Mac OS X 10.3 are the most stable machines they have ever made. People who slam Mac OS X clearly have never used it, or tried ot for 5 minutes, got frustrated because "it was'nt XP", and gave up. Everyone I know who's used Mac OS X for more than half an hour, loves it.

I like my Toshiba laptop. I really do - but Windows is so flaky now, I have to spend so much time keeping it updated, fixing things when updates break things (I gave up on SP2), and worrying about not putting ANY personal data on it lest it become compromised, that it's beeing used less and less these days - and I keep it OFF the Internet at all times, now. (I download what updates I can on my G5, write them to a flashdisk or CDR, and sneakernet them). I really hope Longhorn is the big fix we need, because until then, it just looks grim for XP, as far as my personal useage goes.

I'm happy you found tools that do what you need, but there's really no reason to make disparaging remarks about a company and it's products from your experiences almost twenty years ago - on a different OS platform - in an attempt to slam current users of that companies products. It's not real mature, now is it?

Or, at the very least, if you're going to slam Mac users, get a new arguement, yours is torn, faded, and dog-eared.

Are you possibly mistaking my reply for someone else's?

My entire reply was "Yes, it's been years, but I believe there are alternatives available that better meet my needs, at FAR lower prices. Sorry, but it's not going to happen."

I didn't think that was insulting, nor was it meant to be.
