Same thing happened in our little town. We had a rubber plant that had withstood strike after strike. They told the union if they had another strike they would have to close because they could not afford it. The union did not believe them and had another strike. The company was forced to close. It was our town's biggest employer.
The Union tried at my company and failed. Our employees don't need union representation because they can represent themselves in their own grievances. If they don't get satisfaction with their supervisors, they can go to the department manager or they can come to HR. Some of our employees walk right into the office of the Number 2 guy and voice themselves.
Same thing happend at Firestone in Memphis...the foundry had been there since 1921...but the greedy union went out on strike one too many times...
I once had a Human Resources guy tell me that he had worked in a plant where the union kept trying to get in...again and again they were voted out...so the HR guy asked the union thug why they kept trying when it was obvious that the people did not want them there...His response was at least HONEST for once from a union thug:
"We don't CARE if they don't want us...we are a buisness and we HAVE to have them."
