Matsui leads the pack in election funding
High-profile Democrats back her campaign for late husband's seat.

Doris Matsui raised nearly $700,000 during the first month of her campaign to replace her late husband in Congress, more than 23 times the amount raised by her closest opponent, according to federal records filed Thursday.

Her receipts through Feb. 16 range from $5,000 donations from various political action committees to $250 contributions from friends in Sacramento. Lawmakers and Washington insiders also contributed to her campaign, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who served in the Clinton administration when Matsui worked as a White House official.
All told, Matsui received $691,867, while her nearest fund-raising competitor, Democrat Julie Padilla, raised $29,293, according to federal records. The top Republican fund-raiser, John Thomas Flynn, has raised $20,698, which includes a $7,500 loan he made to his campaign.

Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, contributed $2,000. Besides Albright, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin gave $4,000 and former national security adviser Samuel "Sandy" Berger donated $1,000.
[snip]
Locally, Sacramento developer Angelo Tsakopoulos contributed $2,000, as did his daughter, Eleni Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis. Matsui has long been friends with the Tsakopouloses, and she recently sold two interests in Angelo Tsakopoulos' real-estate partnerships that resulted in a $214,000 profit over two years.

Flynn pointed to several Clinton administration officials who contributed to Matsui's campaign to suggest that she has more ties to Washington than to Sacramento.
"If she's the congresswoman, she'll be the congresswoman from Washington, D.C.," Flynn said. "It looks like a laundry list from the Clinton administration."

Idiots vote for idiots BUMP!
I urge FReepers to support Flynn or one of the other candidates (there are a couple other decent Republicans and one conservative-leaning independent). The goal here is to keep Doris under 50% so there is a runoff. This will mean the Democrats will have thrown all this money down the rathole and be humiliated and have to compete against the top GOP vote-getter (which looks to be John Thomas Flynn).

LOL!!! The Pearcy's have trained you well :D
Conservative High School Blog Endorses Flynn
Flynn for Congress
The California High School Conservative Blog is endorsing John Thomas Flynn for the California 5th Congressional Seat Special election.
Flynn has served in both Sacramento and in Washington. He served as the director of the Federal Regional council under President Ronald Reagan. In 1994 Flynn was appointed as chief Information Officer for The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The next year he was appointed to the same role in California by Governor Pete Wilson.
Flynn has the values that we need during these times. He stands firmly behind President Bush in the prosecution of the War on Terror. He supports the President's vision for Iraq and believes that pulling out prematurely would be disastrous.
Flynn also agrees that we must refine Social Security to save it from a future crisis. He is a promoter of the president's plan that would allow younger workers to invest a small portion of their payroll taxes in a private account. Flynn will work to make sure that the retirement of generations of future Americans is secure for decades to come.
Flynn also shows a willingness to deal with the issue of illegal immigration. So many from both sides of the aisle push this issue aside-but not Flynn. He states on his website that one of his top issues is dealing with the flood of illegals pouring into this nation.
John Thomas Flynn deserves your vote on March 8.
LOL.. The Pearcys.. What model world citizens.
They hate the US and FReedom, but love the capitalist slop they roll around in and the freedoms that they benefit from.
Did Pelosi ever weigh in on the effigies?
She is a big big backer of Doris. even has a seat waiting for her on a Rules Committee.
Here's a pic of The Widow Matsui at the celebration of Nancy being named Democrat Whip:

It comes from Washington Life Magazine
About Nancy and the effigy... I don't believe she did speak out. I think the Democrat establishment saw the dangers of defending people who hang our troops from a noose and then put the U.S. flag in the shape of the USA flushed down a toilet (after stuffing an American flag in a trash can as part of an early display of "protest art")
Get all the fools on your side, you got the majority in any town. Fortunately, all the fools are not on the same page at any one time.
The trick is to have the fools split their votes between two of your opponents, and take the plurality.
I got to know former Green Party Assemblywoman Audie Bock pretty well (she's now almost a Republican she's moved so far to the right - supporting Bush, supporting war on terrorism, opposing illegal immigration) and let me tell you, there is nothing else like seeing the Democrat Party machine lose. In Audie's case she forced a runoff with Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris who was supposed to be a 100% lock. She then got all the Greens, Republicans and disenfranchised Democrats to vote for her in the runoff and beat Harris - thus becoming the highest ranking Green Party official in the United States. The Democrats were humiliated!
I'd prefer that Nancy Pelosi be humiliated, lose the seat and we get another vote to back the President's efforts with Social Security and the war on terrorism.
YOu forgot to mention that she has no ideas except to oppose everything Bush proposes. That is another requirement to be a Democrat today.
