Iraqi Tape Purportedly Shows Syrian Intelligence Officer Involved in Insurgency

BAGHDAD, IRAQ) ? The bearded man in a gray jacket and shirt who appeared on the U.S.-funded Iraqi state television station Wednesday had a stark message about the insurgency -- he was a Syrian intelligence officer who helped train people to behead others and build car bombs to attack American and Iraqi troops.

"My name is Anas Ahmed al-Essa. I live in Halab. I am from Syria," he said by way of introduction -- naming what he said was his home in Syria.

"What's you're job?" he was asked by someone off-camera. "I am a lieutenant in intelligence."

Then a second question. "Which intelligence?" The reply: "Syrian intelligence."

And so began a detailed 15-minute confession broadcast by al-Iraqiya TV, in which the man, identified as 30-year-old Lt. Anas Ahmed al-Essa, said his group was recruited to "cause chaos in Iraq ... to bar America from reaching Syria."

"We received all the instructions from Syrian intelligence," said the man, who appeared in the propaganda video along with 10 Iraqis who said they had also been recruited by Syrian intelligence officers.

No proof according to the AP. To them it's a propaganda film. "We received all the instructions from Syrian intelligence," said the man, who appeared in the propaganda video along with 10 Iraqis who said they had also been recruited by Syrian intelligence officers.

The MSM call this propaganda and that fat slob Michael Moores film a documentary...go figure.

But didn't Helen the Beast Thomas just write an article claiming that the Bush administration was picking on innocent little Syria for no reason? We have been way to soft on Syria when we know that they are playing a major role in killing our soldiers. It's time for George Bush to reach out and slap Assad just like Reagan did to Qaddafi. There's nothing in the world that gets someones attention like 500 pound missile coming through the bedroom window.

Notice the skeptical tone of this report. They just cannot believe what the Iraqi government says, but they swallow anything the terrorists say. Earlier I said this about another report, but I think it's somewhat similar to this. Notice that all of these terrorists close to Zarquai are "lieutenants". If the press didn't approve of them, they'd be "henchmen," "goons," "button men," or some other pejorative term for murderers. Instead, just as we have the usage of the term "insurgents" for foreign terrorists in Iraq who routinely cut off heads, indiscriminately murder civilians, shoot prisoners who have surrendered executions style, and work against the wishes of the majority of the Iraqi people, we have these other plotters of mass murder referred to with respectful words like a military rank such as "lieutenants." This is a great example of the corruption of language for political purposes; it is the type of thing George Orwell wrote about. It's on display whenever you read or watch the MSM. It does great harm in our struggle to win the war on terror since so much of the MSM is either ambivalent or apathetic that it uses the sloppy logic of calling terrorists insurgents, and it sucks up anything the terrorists feed it.

I dont get this. If true, Syria is fueling the insurgency, killing our troops and innocent Iraqi civilians. Plus theyre never going to admit to it and continue lying - "No, we have no involvement whatsoever." How long until we hold Assad and his cronies responsible?
