An episode of the NBC sitcom "Committed,” featuring two characters who flush a Communion wafer down a toilet, has created a firestorm of protest among Catholics.
During the February 22 broadcast, two non-Catholics are mistakenly given Holy Communion at a Catholic funeral Mass. As recounted by the Catholic League:
"Nate, who is Jewish, and Bowie, a Protestant, don’t know what to do with the Eucharist, so they make several failed attempts to get rid of it. For example, they try slipping it into the pocket of a priest, dropping it on a tray of cheese and crackers, etc.
"At one point, the priest, who is portrayed as not knowing the difference between the Host and a cracker, goes to grab the 'cracker' from a tray of appetizers; he initially balks when he discovers that it is the last one. Then he changes his mind, saying, "Oh, what the hell.”
"By far the most offensive scene occurs when Nate and Bowie accidentally flush what they think is the Host down the toilet."
Catholic League President William Donahue is demanding that NBC apologize.
"To say that Catholics are angry about this show would be an understatement - the outrage is visceral and intense," he said Thursday.
"NBC has made a direct frontal assault on Roman Catholicism, choosing to mock, trivialize and ridicule the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ," Donahue added. "More than an apology is needed. This episode should be retired for good, and that is what we will demand.”
"And it is on this issue that it becomes most egregious, Roman Catholicism's doctrine of the Eucharist is VERY different from the Protestant's, and I have a feeling NBC is aware of this."
They knew exactly what they were doing. That's why they thought it would be soooooo funny to flush the wafer down the toilet.
It's blasphemy in my book.
"Many faiths use it to represent the Body of Christ, but dogma dictates in Catholicism that it BECOMES the Body of Christ. It is NOT merely representative. The Host IS Jesus."

Since not all Christian churches believe or teach that a wafer IS the actual Body of Christ...
...not all Christian believe that Christ Himself was actually flushed down a toilet, because some people flushed a Communion wafer.
... Also Methodists, United Brethren, Baptists, American Christians... etc.

Since this was supposed to be about Catholics, it was a representation of doing just that.

Because Jesus said when passing the bread to his disciples, "This IS my body...this IS my blood," it is difficult to see how one can misunderstand the real presence of Christ in the elements of Holy Communion. Unless, of course, you, like Bill Clinton, don't know what the meaning of "is" is.
It can be made fun of like the color of your futon or expression on your face when you eat something yucky. There is nothing sacred to the left except their disgusting perverted ways and love of all things P.C. Truly, they are an abomination.
I'm not going to argue with you about what the Bible says on this doctrine.
My statement was that not ALL Christian churches believe as Catholics do, that the wafer IS the ACTUAL Body of Christ.
Rather they believe it is a representation of His Flesh.

Is there any way to track down which stations aired this? I am ready to send an email out to my affiliate KARE, but I have no clue whether they aired it or not.
To the observant Protestant, who don't believe it actually is the Body of Christ, but rather a symbol like baptism, it is just as offensive.
I might not agree with Catholic theology on transubstantiation, but I find this offensive as a Christian.
Donahue is? How do we know he is?
